It's OK...like everyplace, has it's pros/cons... - 10/29/2007
Tampa is a great place to live if you love hot, sticky, humid weather. Much like the far northern cities where you can't go outside much in Winter, the same is true here is Summer. Outdoor sports (unless on the water), gardening, etc are all rather miserable to do from May to September. The humidity can be very draining and most people experience a noticeable drop in energy around the end of Spring! A lot of people retire here but I can't imagine being older and having to deal with the intense heat.
I have lived in South Florida, West Central Florida, and North Florida, and have to say that the further south you go, the more vagrant the population seems to be. There is not a sense that young urbans want to stick around very long, so it is tough if you are single. The main complaints are the general lack of culture, horrible transportation conditions, considerable crime, and outlying rural areas that are, well, VERY rural. As for the pro football team...well, I

I had to laugh when I read some of the comments posted regarding living in Tampa, FL. Since, it is one of the cities I am interested in moving to. I have to agree with Alex's comments. Born and raised in Chicago and in the travel industry I have been around. Complaints about air quality, crime, cost of housing, and undesirable people. Try living up here with the high cost of living, crime, housing, horrible commuting times, (construction) shoveling your car out of snow drifts, freezing cold and paying the high cost of heating. Not to mention being cooped up indoors from November thru April! It's a dog eat dog environment here and there are no beautiful beaches to stroll along, unless you count fighting an hour or so of traffic, then try finding a parking space near downtown to get anywhere near the beaches of Chicago, which are closed half the time in the summer due to pollution! Our weather is so extreme. Last week it was 85 and today its 50! You have to be a tough breed to live

Not a good place to be - 10/25/2007
Tampa is not a good city to live in. The traffice is unbearable, and the culture of the city is non-existent. This is definitely the deep south and shows that in every aspect. Eventhough, the population is diverse, the mentality is not! Really do your research before settling here. My family and I are leaving as soon as possible. The schools are horrible. The weather is okay, if you like heat, heat, humidity, summer storms that last forever, lightening everyday and a back woods type of mentality. I was fooled by the sunshine, but now, I'm heading back to the

Living in Tampa - 10/10/2007
Tampa is okay. It's not the greatest, though. One of the major reasons I am planning to move is because of the crime rate here. There is also a lack of culture and highly educated people despite the many universities here. The crime is getting worse and worse as more and more people move here. When I visit other cities, I am happier than being in

Good and bad - 9/22/2007
During the fall, winter and spring it is so gorgeous that you will want to spend your time doing outdoor activities such as gardening, exercising, visiting beaches, etc. However beware that many people complain of sinus problems for various reasons. There are a lot of oak tress so if you are allergic to pollen beware. Also, due to the humidity this city is mold heaven so there are a lot of moldy buildings. Those of you who can't stand cigarettes you will be happy to know that smoking prohibited in restaurants however it is allowed in bars. If you don't have respiratory problems you will be fine. Make sure to wear sunscreen though. The sun can be quite intense all year

Wonderful place to live - 9/14/2007
I moved to Tampa from Buffalo four years ago and would never go back. We have a young family and find that there is always something to do. Pick from beaches to fairs, city life to zoo's, adventure parks to nature parks. Winter's are beautiful and summer's are bearable due to the vast amount of water and water parks. There are many beautiful neighborhoods and quite a bit of money in Tampa. I have never experienced crime in the four years here and love the variety Tampa provides

I moved to Tampa, FL in 1993 from Westchester County, New York. I fell in love with the beaches and the climate (for the most part). I have enjoyed a good lifestyle in Florida, one that I would not have been able to afford in New York. I've seen lots of growth and Tampa offers a little of everything. Eventually I would like to move to a State that is not quite as hot and humid so that I can spend more time outdoors hiking, biking, whitewater rafting,
