What BestPlaces Users Say about Savannah

Savannah is a popular city located in Georgia, known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and charming Southern culture. It is a popular destination for tourists, but it is also a place where many people choose to live. In this particular place, there are various neighborhoods, each with its unique charm and character. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Savannah, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to John, who has lived in Savannah for 5 years, "Savannah is a beautiful city with a lot of character and charm. The historic district is a must-see, and there are plenty of great restaurants and shops to explore. However, the cost of living can be high, and the traffic can get pretty hectic during tourist season."

Another resident, Sarah, shares her thoughts on the city: "Living in Savannah feels like being part of a tight-knit community. The people here are friendly, and there are always events and festivals happening. Plus, the beach is just a short drive away, which is perfect for weekend getaways."

In contrast, Mark, who has been living in Savannah for 10 years, has a different perspective. He says, "I love the history and the overall vibe of the city, but the job market here is not great. It can be challenging to find good employment opportunities, especially in certain industries."

Finally, Emily, who recently moved to Savannah, shares her first impressions: "I've only been here for a few months, but I am already in love with this city. The weather is great, and there is always something to do. I do wish the public transportation system was better, though."

Overall, it seems that most people enjoy living in Savannah for its charm and sense of community, but there are some concerns about the cost of living, job market, and transportation. It is always helpful to read multiple reviews and gather different perspectives before making a decision about living in a new place.

Savannah, GA - 7/21/2006
I moved to Savannah, GA 2 years ago and I've regretted it ever since. Savannah's not a bad place to visit; I really wouldn't advise anyone to live here. The positives: Downtown is historic and pretty. Winters are pretty mild. The negatives: School system sucks, crime is out of control, summer in hell would probably be cooler than summer in savannah, limited growth opportunties, a tourist/service based economy, traffic is ridiculous for a town this small (remember this street: Abercorn. you'll learn to hate if you move here). Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give savannah a Read More

Bad Idea to Move Here! - 7/9/2006
We've lived in Savannah for 3 months now and have had the displeasure of finding out several unexpected issues that have made us rethink our decision to move here.
- services you recieve here from fast food reasturaunts to business representatives is pittiful and disappointing.
-Property Crime and violent Crime is astounding and it's sad to see how young most affenders are.
-Racial issues are alive and strong here. No matter how you treat people you will always be treated according to your race.
-Taxes for anything are outrageos and property prices are ridiculous!
-Yes, there are plenty of things to do here but you'll waste all day looking for a parking spot oh and pay a fortune for a space when you find one. No one tells you Savannah is a walking city or that with crime as it is you really don't want to walk anywhere especially not alone.
We are southerners and in our business, familiar with southern hospitality. We thought Savannah would be Read More

I've got to get out of Los Angeles...NOW! - 5/6/2006
I am a native of Southern California. As much as I love California- I am itching to move away from here (Los Angeles) in the next few years. It is much too expensive for a working-class,single female(even from what I hear..for married working-class couples as well...)to stay here and drown. Also, employment is getting difficult to score if you are not college-educated or bi-lingual or a teenager willing to make peanuts.

I "work" two jobs to live in the great neighborhood I am currently living in. Aside from the hip celebrities of the day (who I could care less about)there are many artists, musicians, poets, thinkers, characters roaming about. There are many great boutiques, nightclubs, thrift stores and resturants. A strong democratic/liberal core. The weather is great.

What/where are the towns that would match this vibe in Georgia(or within the city of Savannah)? Is there work (retail/office) available?

Thanks,

Historic Savannah - 4/21/2006
Savannah as a whole, has many great things to offer but the HIstoric District is the heart. The food is absolutely fantastic. You have an array of places to choose from. Whether you want some "good ol' southern cookin'" from Paula Deen's restaurant "The Lady and Sons", or maybe you would prefer a taste of Italy at "Il Pasticchio", Savannah has it all. Not only does Savannah offer great food, it also host one of the largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations which has been unofficially ranked second to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. People from all over come to Savannah to experience true southern hospitality. So,if that is what your looking for, Savannah is defintely the place to Read More

I love it here - truly beautiful, cclectic, eccentric and exciting. Full of odd and interesting characters. You can all at once become lost and found. Culture and crime take on new meaning. I've seen it change and stay the same way it has been since the turn of the century I think. I've lived here for 7 years, I am not quite ready to leave it Read More
