VERY HOT - 5/26/2018
I moved from a higher elevation and am having quite a difficult time adjusting to this heat. I work outside so it's definitely an issue. It truly doesn't rain for 5 months or so in the summer. Very, very hot. There's no way that the real avg daily temp is only 90°.

Just like heaven... - 3/22/2018
Having relocated from Fresno, CA to Boise in Nov. 2014, all I can say is, "Thank God!" It's like a breath of fresh air after having lived in crime-ridden, overtaxed California for 30+ years. No more loonie, left-wing politics to destroy the economy. No more marxist "gun control" laws to disarm honest citizens, and no more "Big Brother" state government trying to enforce its P.C. propaganda on hard-working families. FYI, we didn't move up to Boise with a ton of home equity money. The house we bought here in Boise cost about the same as the one we sold in Fresno. So please, all you Bay area and SoCal types--stay away! You've already ruined your own state--don't do the same to

Nice town. - 2/20/2018
Relocated to Boise in 2016. Here are my impressions. Climate is moderate. Summer is very warm to hot. Cools down at night. We like the dry heat! Winter can be cold. However, very little wind in Boise and when the sun is out, it’s very nice. Traffic is good on a very good freeway system. The surface streets are very busy with many drivers exceeding the speed limits. Lots of trucks here which exceed the speed (not commercial, but personal trucks). Watch out at intersections, as red light runners are in abundance! Parks appear nicely maintained and graffiti free. Downtown is very clean and generally clear of homeless. Boise Police make their presence known and appear professional. Restaurants, that’s another story. Very mediocre food with little culinary creativity. Generally speaking. Many appear unclean and servers lack customer service skills. It’s almost like returning to the 70’s for cuisine. Housing is expensive compared to wages. Many parts

The Good:
Everything you need to live is here, including raising a family, safety, and cleanliness.
Moderate 4 season, Mild consistency in weather.
Opportunities for fun, outdoors, and exercise is endless.
The Bad:
Not the best restaurants, nor the worst in the us.
High cost of living for rent, mortgage, etc.
Limited employment base, limited consistent employment base
Worst schools, including colleges in the us. this includes lowest grad rate.
The Ugly:
60 percent mormon, which creeps into politics.
Politics is obsessive republican statewide, which has pluses and minuses
Boise is somewhat blue, but not very open to the gay, minority, or womens rights
If you have money and move here you will be sucked dry, if you dont have money you will end up leaving, and if you make money you wont have very much for very long.

It's not what it Seems..... - 12/27/2017
Boise might seem to be a great place... but we are also the state that had the first Atomic accident..in 1961, also an on-going court battle(Andrus and Batt, ex-governor) over how Nuclear waste was stored at INL by Arco...it was buried in cardboard boxes back in the 50's and 60's... This is all documented information online... The radioactive waste has entered the Water Aquifer in Magic Valley (Twin Falls and 125mi from Boise) and this is an area where we get our Diary products from...Vegetables... Meats...etc.,
Also look up Thyroid Cancer cases in South Idaho compared to other states... I posted this earlier with links...but it never made it online

Boise house prices have gone up about $60-80,000 since last

I feel safe here in Boise - 10/12/2017
I am a woman and moved here 2-1/2 yrs ago from Las Vegas. The comments talk about the crime in Boise, it's nothing compared to Las Vegas.
There is crime in ALL cities and states. GEEZZ. I found a job making 17.50 an hour as a Bookkeeper. Comments talk about low wages and being disrespected by employers, WELL, stick up for yourself, ask for more money, do you have a decent education? Do you want to advance your education? That will get you a better job and wage, so don't complain about it, do something to improve your life.
It's a fact that EVERYONE can see a doctor here, get over it. There are always advertising free monthly health care on TV and its at the Garden City fair grounds.
So all you complainer's living here then MOVE, try Kansas City, Mo, Sacramento, CA, They have a lot of gangs and very high crime. I like living here, I have not encountered one rude person, I like the slower place, what's the hurry, just leave a few minutes earlier.

The problem with Boise is it has too much of that "small" town vibe going; people will exclude you, snitch, & create drama. Too many Mormons & since it's a right to work state the wages suck & management treats you poorly. Their super conservative "values" are setting them up for failure; nobody wants to live in a place that's similar to Mississippi in the 40's. Rape/sexual assault crimes are high & the cops do nothing about you; drugs, especially a plant, is a bigger deal than a rapist. Idaho never did expand Medicaid, If you need help (Housing, food, etc) basically you better be pregnant or you're screwed. The men are very sexist & the women are so feeble minded that they tear other women apart & act as though they may die if they don't have a "man." No gun control because really, who needs safety?
California will ALWAYS beat out this backwoods, hillbilly place.

Like stepping back in time. - 3/1/2017
I grew up in the West, so I thought I knew everything I needed to know about Idaho. Wrongo! We've been here almost 2 years.
The pros:
Small town feel. people are polite, low cost housing with plenty of surrounding communities to choose from, enough stores for shopping, growing restaurant culture, easy commutes, clean, safe community, several cultural events at the University, Boise is a good walking town. Plenty of outdoor activities with amazing natural scenery.
The cons:
Provincial/redneck, difficult to find a job if you are not originally from Idaho and/or over 40, Mormon culture permeates everything...nice people, but not inclusive of other philosophies or religions....also, the men are sexist and condescending toward women (I've never been asked so many times, in a professional setting, if I have children). Medical care is a nightmare. Had to go to 5 dentists to get my crown fixed...they looked puzzled, as if they had never created a crown before.
