Growing up in Watseka - 2/2/2009
Yes, I can see the previous writers' point of view. However, Watseka is the town of my birth. Gotta stand up for it. For a small community, it offers a variety of church involvement, community events - especially the Fourth of July celebration, school spirit, and people who are willing to help you out in a crunch. My father was one of them. And yes, he was a part of the older generation and was concerned about what newcomers had to offer the city. It is a quiet little town. There was a bowling alley once and could be again if you wanted to own a business there; just make it a great place for families and teens. The city pool has always been a place for kids to spend their summers and learn the sport. Little League is a habit easily formed. On the outside Watseka looks like a cute little town but it is the worst place I have ever been. It is very quiet, infact it's a ghost town after 9pm, every shop is closed by 4:30pm. The people residing here are very unfriendly, snobby and nosey but worse yet they all call the police on you for the slightest thing. I got a 75 dollar fine the first week I was here because the neighbor accused my dog of pooping on their grass, then the officer noticed their were no tags on the dogs collar so he was taking her to the pound, when I pleaded with him not to take the dog and that she really did have her shots and license but the tags were misplaced the officer then threatened to arrest me and have my children taken by DCFS. All this trouble over a dog pooping? It's a ghost town after 9pm probably because people are afraid they will be singled out by police simply for the fact that they are out after sundown! The quality of life is poor because of the over zelousness of the police, the Read More
