Beautiful Place to Live, But Something is Missing - 6/28/2012
We moved here from the fast pace of a big city in another state and immediately loved the small town feel to Wheaton. It is a very nice place to live, and there is a lot to do to entertain our young children.
Having lived in a different part of the country all of my life, I can say that what seems like a large majority of the local people here routinely compete with their neighbors, talk poorly of their neighbors, seem to be obsessed with having more than their neighbors, and seem to be very unhappy. I think it is a culture here that I am not used to and have been a bit taken back by it.
I lived in an area of our country where millionaires were everywhere. Although I am middle class, I am used to living in the vicinity of very wealthy people. I can honestly say that the very wealthy people I previously lived near to, whom had far more money and worldly experience than anyone I have ever met from Wheaton, IL, were far more pleasant to be around than many of

An idyllic life close to the big city - 5/14/2009
Mature tree-lined streets, a charming little downtown area next to the Metra (rail service) filled with decent restaurants, and a low crime rate - all within 25 miles of Chicago (for those who must have a slice of the big city)... We can't really ask for anything

Wheaton - Best place to live in Illinois - HANDS D - 8/1/2006
To live in Wheaton, Illinois is to step back in time - in a good way.
The public school system is excellent. Most children live within walking distance to a school. There are playparks everywhere and most nights / weekends you will find impromptu baseball games with Dads and sons, as well as Mothers and newborns taking walks without hesitation around town. Friday nights bring "classic car night" to the "downtown" area where people socialize over ice cream cones while listening to 50's music. Churches abound, and Wheaton College is a big part of the living in the town.
To live in Wheaton is to live in a Norman Rockwell painting - neighbors know everybody (and watch out for each other), kids play - riding bikes to the parks without hesitation, and people "hop on the train to Chicago for a 35 minute ride to enjoy a night of theatre".
This town should make the top list of best places to live, it is way way way better than Naperville, Illinois
