Lexington is a great place to live - 12/3/2021
Lexington is a beautiful city. There are tons of tree lined streets and even trees in both sides of the city's only freeway. It's relatively small, which can be both good or bad depending on your taste. There are 2 large cities within an hour and a half. For me that's perfect! There's a lot of diversity in the city, people from different places along with restaurants with many types of cuisine. I've moved here 4 times and have lived here a total of 22 years. I recently bought the house I expect to live in the rest of my life. People are generally friendly, especially if you're friendly too. You can take a walk in most of the city and feel perfectly safe. The high schools have great options for all types of students, from arts to engineering and multiple schools for kids with learning disabilities. I say this as a parent of 6 kids, not as a school official. I love Lexington. If you haven't been here, you should give it a Read More

You aint from around here - 2/19/2020
I have lived here now for over five years, originally from the west coast and here is my top 10 for why you should NOT move here.

#1 The Culture: They have none, it is neither northern nor southern. Nothing to gives them an identity except for lots of farms with fences and distilleries which are they only thing good they have going here.
#2 The People: rudeness, social ignorance and small mindedness are pervasive here even in the city, they seem to be in their own world can't hold a door open or say hello to save their life. These folks need to learn some manners.
#3 Politics: lots of commercials about some rednecks plowing with mules and a governor who "Aint from around here" , meaning your an outsider. Most in this area just votes for whatever will give them the best deal. they have no principles neither left nor right wing.
#4 Education: lots of ignorance even in the burbs and city, "schoolin aint a prioitize here".
#5 Driving and roads: Read More

Lived Here All My Life - 10/2/2015
Lexington is a nice place to live, I cannot deny that. It is beautiful in all 4 seasons although I hate the winters. The ice and snow can be very bad and it destroys my landscaping!. I recently lost boxwoods that I spent 15 years cultivating. My husband and I met in high school and both of our families are from here. It was a good place to grow up and a nice place to raise our children. People are "tolerant" of others and are usually very polite and respectful, even if they do not agree with you. I grew up in the Chevy Chase area which was really nice and still is. Currently we live in the Veterans Park area which is fabulous. With all this said I want to move somewhere near the coast! As soon as we sell our house and I find a job I'm on my way! Read More

I miss living in Lexvegas too!!! - 3/21/2015
(Pros): I lived in Lexington for 7 years, four of those spent at university. 1. The hospitality and friendliness of people was great; people of all backgrounds (religion, politics, orientation, race, etc) mingled in my circles. [but like any major city...you betta like their sports team or keep hush about it. I'm living in New Orleans now and not being a football fan is a pain!] I learned one tradition that I maintain til this day - keeping tailgating chairs in my trunk so that I can always be ready for a social event, gathering, or holiday. Friends love inviting you over to there house [not so much down here in New Orleans; they prefer to get drinks and party.] 2. The cost of living was fantastic!!! No seriously, I'm thinking about going back. I'm missing the car insurance rates especially [I believe LA has one of the highest in the country]. 3. The economy seems solid, although I wouldn't write home about it. 4. It's very green oriented and socially conscious - lots of options for Read More
