Very Expensive and unwelcoming. - 7/20/2006
I lived in Boston and the greater Boston area for about 10 years; I went to university in the city and I also spent a long time working there after I graduated. There are plenty of things to do in the city: Historical tours, museums, live music, great breweries, great food, dance clubs, and plenty of professional sports teams to cheer on. One of my favorite neighborhoods is the North End due to the great food and mom and pop storefronts.
The winters can be bitterly cold and could also bring a fair amount of snow. Shoveling the snow off of your car to get it out its parking spot after a winter storm is not romantic. I hated summers there. The temperature would go into the high 80’s and the humidity would make you feel like you were in the Amazon: Hot, hazy, and humid…horrible. The fall is simply fantastic: The leaves on the trees turn beautiful colors and the humidity goes away.
It is very difficult to make friends in Boston. Bostonians seem to become easily irritable

Tough People to Pop - 7/14/2006
Coming from the West Coast, Boston has been a hard city to break into. After three years I have made no significant friends or found the right social

Boston, MA. - 7/12/2006
Boston is very, very nice, but expensive. Commutes are tough, and parking in the city is tough. I have a condo in the city with an indoor parking place, otherwise I wouldn't be as positive about the location. And, did I say expensive?
There are recreation areas to the north, west and south. There are many colleges as well as 2 good adult education enterprises. Also plays, concerts and so

Four Seasons, some longer than others.. - 7/1/2006
When I first moved here 20 years ago I was overjoyed to finally be somewhere that had blue skies more often than not. In the last few years this has been less true. The cold has gotten colder, the snow more frequent and in bursts rather than scattered throughout the winter months, and Spring seems to start a month later, with April showers now happening in May, and April often still filled with snow. The summers are hot, and humid, not always cooling down in the evening. Fall may make up for it all: crisp air still warm enough through late September to enjoy evenings outdoors, and colors more spectacular than anywhere I've seen just a short drive

Environmental issues must be better addressed - 6/29/2006
Recycling in residential areas is pretty well-organized; however, in areas with rental properties and in the medical area and other industrial areas, much more effort toward recycling and improvement of the environment need to be made. The MBTA (transit authority) needs to complete the switch to healthier fuel for ALL their buses, not just those in wealthier areas. By doing this, it would have a big impact on the health of poor and working families, especially asthmatic

People not Friendly - 6/29/2006
I agree with much of what the Moving out of Boston 5/29/06 post said. I moved away from Boston in Q4 2005 after nearly 6 years there (from Maryland). We found people extremely unfriendly, bitter, and depressed despite all Boston has going for it (economy, sports, day trips, attactions). We also found it nearly impossible to make friends there. Very many self-centered, prima donna types focused on status and power. Now, we have more and better friends here (Roanoke-Blacksburg, VA) afte only 7 months than we did in Boston in 6 years. Never, ever

Boston is great! - 6/16/2006
In reply to the previous commentors: Boston is a great place to live! I think it offers alot of opportunity in a great location. People need to stop complaining about the high costs and start living. You can choose less expensive submarkets like NH or RI. Take my advice Boston is not too expensive compared to New York. New York is the most expensive and believe me you get crap for your money. Boston is not that bad. So for people flocking to southern regions, I have looked into them all, it looks great on the computer (MARKETING!) but when you get there it is a very different feel. I been to Austin, TX its nice but small and verrrrrrry diffferent!!!!!
No beach, No skiing, No mountains, small cultural feel, cowboys! Nice apartments and homes for the money but not much to do! Homes are expensive there too.
WORD OF ADVICE:
* Y O U G E T W H A T Y O U P A Y F O R!
