4. In contrast, Robert L. expresses his disappointment with the current state of Detroit and the decline of its once-thriving downtown area. He comments, "I grew up in Detroit and it's sad to see how it has changed. The downtown area used to be bustling with businesses and now it's mostly abandoned buildings. It's not the same city I remember."

An interesting social study. - 3/12/2010
Too much to summarize in a little blurb such as this.

I will say that this is the only city in the US where chain stores have all pulled out of. No Target or Walmart, just "Lotto and Liquor".

This is the only place I have been where someone wanted to assault me for no reason.

There are unique small stores and other things you will only find here.
Noir Leather, Jack Kevorkian's legacy, Detroit hats and style. Ethnic groups you won't find in large numbers anywhere else in the US.
And photo opportunities to die for, hey you probably will die if you dare take a picture here, haha.

It does break my heart to think of what its become, but I have never personally seen it to be Good.

Detroit, with tears in my eyes, I blow you a kiss goodbye.

Detroit is NICE! - 10/22/2009
To all of you who are putting down Detroit, you can all go **** yourselves. Have you ever been in downtown Detroit? It is awesome. I have been down there tons of times to watch Tigers and Red Wings games and concerts. After the games, I usually walk around Detroit to the bars, the casino and other places. The Detroit River is a nice view. I went on a small cruise ship around the Detroit River. Its so cool, especially at night. Now if you want to talk crap about Detroit neighborhoods, then thats a different story. When I was a satellite tv installer, most of the jobs were in Detroit where the houses are literally crumbling and abandoned. But downtown is awesome. And most of the suburbs of Detroit are really nice. Most of Wayne County and Oakland county are really nice. Macomb County isnt all that bad either. So until you have spent time taking in the sites, then STFU. Detroit is Read More

good luck living here - 6/8/2009
Michigan used to be a great state, but those were the days. The greed of the politicians and labor unions in the auto industry has completely destroyed this once great state. What’s funny is that people always complain at how bad the leadership and politicians are, but always re-elect them! The state is now losing the most jobs and population of any state. The roads are also deplorable. People in this state need so much help, but the politicians (from both parties) only care about themselves and leave everyone else behind. The leadership in Michigan is lacking, and they wont let the state reinvent itself so it can be competitive for the future. The young people are moving out of state by the droves to find work elsewhere, making MI a leading state for the brain drain. The state also has high taxes, which is partially responsible for the job losses. Most of Michigan cities are also suffering from job loss, population decline, grime and grit. Good luck finding a job here. The quality of Read More

The economy here is horable - 6/3/2009
no one in my family had a job until about a month ago. now my dad has a part time job, we have the highest unemployment rate in the county. and the crime, well its not as bad as every one thinks. there is drugs and gangs but as long as you dont get involved with that stuff you won't get shot or nothing like that. but dont expect low proporty crime, we just had the windows on our garage smashed and grafeti is all over the back of our house.Read More

What does it take? - 5/9/2009
Winters in the North make you thankful for the spring and warmer days. Nights are longer and days are shorter. It still seems to draw people from all around to try and find what they can of that, American Dream in Motown. No harm in that, at least its not up on the Yukon trail where there were real dangers way back when. With housing and jobs in what some have called in shambles these past months, I look myself at history and see on city that most overlook as a very historic town that just doesn`t want to go-away or die away.
