Normal Rockwell turned into a nightmare - 10/13/2019
Arrogant and ignorant- They believe nowhere is better than Portland and that they are some of the best people you could ever be around which tells you how small their world is. Passive aggressive to anyone not from Michigan, just looking for the soft spot to drive the knife in behind your back. The only thing nice about it were some of the views and some of the few people who were nice but that was it. The principal has got to be the worst I've ever had to deal with, cold hearted, aggressive and mean if she's still there. She fired a staff member for telling me who beat up my son saying it's a breach of privacy and yelled at me for wanting to know the details about what happened making me cry in front of the kids and then telling me to be quiet as I was crying. My son is gentle and sweet and has special needs. You will hear constant complaints on the Portland community page about kids getting bullied and nothing being done about it. Beauty In a Small Town! - 1/12/2018
I live in Alabama, but spent several years in the Portland, Michigan area.
Portland is an amazingly beautiful town on two rivers. The town has an awesome walking trail around the city, restaurants on the water, quaint and beautiful churches and homes. It's about as picturesque as a postcard, it's located conveniently between Lansing and Grand Rapids, and as charming as anyplace I've ever seen-and I have been to 20 countries around the globe and almost every state in America. This is a perfect place to live. We only left the area because aging bones and cold weather don't mix well.
I always had early morning coffee with my best friend and then prayer-walked the town around the walking trails, across the beautiful old bridge, under a misty morning fog and halo-shrouded street lights, to light our path......I MISS
