Southgate, Michigan is a suburban city located in south central Wayne County, just minutes away from Detroit. It’s known for its diverse restaurants and unique shopping experiences. Southgate is also home to many parks and outdoor recreation areas, such as Veterans Memorial Park and the Southgate Civic Center. Additionally, there are plenty of entertainment options available in Southgate, including movie theaters, bowling alleys, and arcades.
Residents of Southgate give it high reviews because of its close proximity to Detroit as well as its variety of attractions. People love the fact that they can enjoy an active nightlife in Southgate without having to pay the exorbitant prices associated with larger cities like Detroit or Ann Arbor. Additionally, locals rave about the great restaurants serving up incredible food from all corners of the globe. Shopping is always a pleasure for residents due to the plethora of shops selling everything from fine jewelry to antiques and vintage items. Finally, people appreciate the numerous parks scattered throughout town as well as other recreational activities like golfing and hiking trails available nearby. All these factors contribute to why Southgate is so highly rated by its residents.

Every city has it's positives and negatives. Southgate's positives to name a few include relatively inexpensive housing, a decent public transportation system, no lack of basic shops, easy access to freeways and close to Detroit, a friendly but overworked police force and many neighborhoods that that have several generations staying put. I have been here over 3 years and am making plans to move. Here's why. Southgate is overrun with drug addicts. Heroin flows freely here. Where there's heroin, there's crime. And a growing gang problem. There's also choking pollution from a massive refinery, mining and heavy industrial complex. There's a big lack of green space and recreation can only be found in nearby cities.
