According to the Best Places website, Minneapolis, Minnesota is a popular city known for its vibrant arts and music scene, beautiful parks and lakes, and thriving economy. It is home to over 400,000 residents and has been ranked as one of the best cities to live in the United States. However, every place has its pros and cons, and user reviews provide valuable insights into the reality of living in a particular location. Let's take a look at what some people have to say about living in Minneapolis.

1. Mark G. shared his experience of living in Minneapolis for over 30 years and said, "Minneapolis is a wonderful city with great people and a strong sense of community. The diversity of cultures and ideas make it a truly unique place to live." 4. Lastly, Jenna L. commented on the city's overall vibe and said, "I love Minneapolis for its laid-back and friendly atmosphere. There's always something to do here, whether it's attending a concert or trying out a new restaurant. It's a great city for young professionals, families, and retirees alike."

I was born and raised in minneapolis. On the surface people are friendly. It may catch someone from a much larger city of guard when someone says hi to you while you are walking down the street. Don't be fooled. The people are hard to get to know, unless you went to high school with them. There are exceptions but for the most part people are not willing to make new friends. It is a shame since there are many, many things to do here. We have an excellent park system and world renowned hospitals and theatre. There are also professional and college teams of note. It took a long time but finally we have better stores and unique restaurants. if you move here make sure you have some kind of "built in" colleagues or friends otherwise socially you will have a difficult Read More

Minneapolis is going downhill - 6/22/2006
I've lived in Minneapolis since 1968. I moved here as I liked the wonderful quality of life, a city with no "slums" and a low crime-rate. That has all changed. The people I moved here to get away from have all moved here. Minneapolis of 2006 hardly resembles the Minneapolis of 1968. It was an "Ozzie and Harriet" all-American city and still had many of the characteristics that other places lost back in the 1940's like a busy, bustling business district, many downtown department stores, movie theatres, etc. It now is beginning to resemble other midwestern cities with a downtown that is almost dead except for the offices, banks and business headquarters which employ many people. Those people come to work in the morning and leave the city after work. There is one department store, a nearly empty "City Center" shopping mall, and many of the old businesses and restaurants are gone completely. There are gangs of minorities on street corners who panhandle, harass etc. There have Read More

Gay Minneapolis etc. - 5/16/2006
To start, if you're gay it doesn't matter if you are in Minneapolis, Denver, San Diego, Dallas, etc...all these cities have the same kinds of guys who move around every few years to find new guys and jobs. Even though there is a big gay populatoin in Minneapolis it's pretty much the same guys over and over, most are transplants from other metro areas seeking something 'different', and don't stay for more than 2-5 years.

If you don't have a college degree, you will be miserable in Minneapolis. You won't find much besides the lowest paying jobs, and with the ridiculous cost of housing - not to mention most of the affordable apartments are now becoming condos, you won't find much. Minneapolis is a place for the college-degreed, trendy yuppies; unless you have these things I would suggest a city like Duluth (where I moved to) which is more afffordable, and even has first-time homeowner programs and services available - not even an option in Minneapolis anymore. Minneapolis Weather - 5/9/2006
Minneapolis weather is generally great from May to October. Summer is tolerable, unless you hate humidity and bugs (skeeters and such). But, the summers are awesome if you are an outdoors type and enjoy al the activities that Minnesota has to offer. Winters are not near as bad as they used to be, probably due to global warming. But, it is still intolerable if you have ever spent a winter in Southern California or other similarly temperate Read More

Traffic Bites - 5/3/2006
We live south of the river. 35W north is the worst excuse for an interstate in the US. I love lots about Minnesota but the traffic situation stinks in general. Anything more than 4 lanes of two-way is a rarity...which is ridiculous for a 3-4million metro population.

Oh, and the uber-liberals are ticking me off right now by trying to prevent MN from keeping their professional sports teams.

I'm frustrated and discouraged at the crime rate of Minneapolis----particularly north Minneapolis. We need better leadership from our elected officials, less "wrist-slapping" of the criminal element and more able-bodied people with Read More

not sure if i ever want to live anywhere else - 4/21/2006
i know the crime is up. but it spiked in the nineties and i hope it will go down again. i just don't think you can beat minneapolis if you want an urban environment withtout the hassle of a horrendously long commutes or outrageous home prices. no, houses are not cheap right now. we're not buying becuase we think they're overvalued significantly right now. but if you think home prices are high here, check out chicago or any of the cities on the coasts. it's nothing.

beyond that, i've never seen better schools or healthcare either than in minnesota. and MN people may be a bit aloof at first, but i appreciate their just basic kindness & niceness compared to the aggressiveness & "tough"ness of people in bigger Read More
