What BestPlaces Users Say about Minneapolis

According to the Best Places website, Minneapolis, Minnesota is a popular city known for its vibrant arts and music scene, beautiful parks and lakes, and thriving economy. It is home to over 400,000 residents and has been ranked as one of the best cities to live in the United States. However, every place has its pros and cons, and user reviews provide valuable insights into the reality of living in a particular location. Let's take a look at what some people have to say about living in Minneapolis.

1. Mark G. shared his experience of living in Minneapolis for over 30 years and said, "Minneapolis is a wonderful city with great people and a strong sense of community. The diversity of cultures and ideas make it a truly unique place to live." He also mentioned the city's excellent public schools and rich history as factors that have kept him in Minneapolis for so long.

2. On the other hand, Sarah W. expressed her disappointment with the high cost of living in Minneapolis. She stated, "I moved to Minneapolis for a job opportunity, but the cost of living here is way too high for me. Rent, groceries, and utilities are all expensive, and it's hard to make ends meet on a single income."

3. Another user, Ryan P., shared his thoughts on the weather in Minneapolis and said, "I've lived in Minneapolis for five years now, and I can confidently say that the winters here are brutal. The cold, snowstorms, and icy roads can make daily life challenging, but the summers are beautiful and make up for it."

4. Lastly, Jenna L. commented on the city's overall vibe and said, "I love Minneapolis for its laid-back and friendly atmosphere. There's always something to do here, whether it's attending a concert or trying out a new restaurant. It's a great city for young professionals, families, and retirees alike."

In summary, user reviews about living in Minneapolis vary, but they all highlight the city's diverse community, high cost of living, challenging winters, and vibrant culture as significant aspects of the city. Ultimately, each person's experience may differ, but these reviews provide valuable insights for those considering making Minneapolis their home.

Your Report is incorrect - 9/16/2008
Hello,

I'm not sure where you receive your information from but there is a piece that is off by far and it makes me question the rest of your reports as I was hoping to use your site as a tool to decide where to move.

Minneapolis ups and downs. - 7/26/2008
Although there are those who might agree to disagree these are my observations as a West Coast transplant.

Pros:

1)For a metropolitan area parking is a dream.

2)Rush hour traffic in downtown Minneapolis may be a little congested at times but at least it moves.

3)Cost of living is (relatively) affordable. Someone with a high school education can
purchase a home in a decent area.

4)You can register your car and renew your driver's license in one trip to the DMV in less then an hour.

5)Clothes will last for years and years because you can only wear the same ones for three months out of the year.

Cons:

1)The climate is extreme by national standards. Utilities run a little high due to this.

2)A large percentage of the urban poulation seems to have originated in very rural areas and thus are not well prepared to handle foreign Read More

MINNESOTA - 7/16/2008
Living in Minnesota for a lifetime becomes a challenge with the COLD WINTERS we have.
Summer takes forever to get here and usually it is 85 degrees and very humid (10,000 lakes) But the humidity makes it miserible. Whaen we have days of 85/90 degrees and no humidity, I can't think of a more beautiful state.
Great place for fishing & hunting, if you like those sports.
Anyway, I am thinking so seriously about Albuquerque.......mild winters is a great plus for a move. It's seems to have about the same crime rate as MN. so that would be nothing new.........I would like to veiw any feedback on New Read More

City of Lakes - 7/15/2008
I moved here from Houston, Texas and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Most everything about the Twin Cities (both Minneapolis & Saint Paul) is fantastic. (Except the weather in January and February)

You can find great neighborhoods (I live a block from Lake Harriet in Mpls. and walk/run/ski around it nearly everyday) great schools (more colleges/schools per capita than any other area), housing, jobs (lots of Fortune 500 companies), educated, environmentally minded people, health care (U. of M., Mayo clinic is in Rochester, Hazelden nearby), arts and theatre (here we exceed, too numerous to mention) music, jazz (The Dakota is world renownwed) plus lots of free things like great parks, libraries, concerts, improv shows, the rose garden-peace park, Roberts Bird Sanctuary, puppet theatres, ("Heart of the Beast"), parades ("The Holidazzle"). Read the Minneapolis Tribune, Variety section, to keep current.

My only draw back is the weather in January and Read More

You'll Only Love It If Your Born Here - 6/11/2008
You will probably read a ton of reviews on here with very conflicting information. Some will be sparkling, raving about here. Others will totally slam this place for numerous reasons.

One important detail to take notice: Where the people that wrote it are originally from. Native Minnesotans are in love with this place. If you move from somewhere else, you probably won't be able to stand it.

They grew up with the fakeness, the pseudo-trendiness, the wanna-be big-city atmosphere. They grew up in the horrible weather, and are very used to sitting in the house. Lots to do in Minnesotan translates to the rest of us: Lots to eat. Eating here is a social activity, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. So if you don't like to eat you will be bored to tears. An extremely dull nightlife combined with a vary narrow view of the world will have you sleeping within minutes of arrival.

Most of these shiny reviews come from people who have never been anywhere else. Read More

Wonderful area- great place to raise family - 5/8/2008
Both Minneapolis and St. Paul are wonderful cities. Minneapolis has more square feet of parks than any other city, and streets are lined with old trees. There are wonderful areas like East River and West River Parkway and Minnehaha, which have great trails for biking or running and waterfalls along the way. You can go cross- country skiing in the winter for free at some of the City owned golf courses in St. Paul. You can go swing dancing at the Wabash Street caves, an old gangster hang out in a huge cave formed by the Mississippi, or go Latin dancing any night of the week. And Minneapolis has more theaters and restaurants per capita than any other city. You can find authentic cuisine from any region, and you can choose between a gourmet version and pay $30 per entree or get an awesome meal at a place like Pho Tau Bay for $7 an entree. You can get rose pedal ice cream at Sonny's Crema Cafe on Lyndale and 34th, or sip martinis at the ice bar at Chambers while warming your hands Read More

Big city benefits, small town feel - 5/4/2008

A vibrant, cosmopolitan Midwestern city. - 4/8/2008
This is a very cosmopolitan city with an expanding immigrant population. Suburbia is bad, but not worse than most around the country (Chicago's is much more massive and sickening). There's not a single Best Buy within the city limits, and there are many, many great restaurants. The music scene has something for everybody - I've been playing here as a musician for over four years and every time I look in a City Pages I'm astounded by the number of groups I've never heard of. The winters are terrible, particularly this last winter - it's April and I'm still thawing out. Your car won't start, your skeleton will freeze and your sinuses will burn from the cold. But May and September are the most beautiful months, and June through August will make you think about how nice snow is, or you could just go to the beach. There are clean public beaches. As for the job market...
