Land of 10,000 Fakes - 6/24/2007
Bunch of fake, phony, unoriginal group of people I've ever seen in my life. I moved here from philly a year ago for better career options and financial gain. True indeed, minnesota is a nice place to live if you want to escape the crime from bigger cities, and the wages are higher, schools are better and you can make tons of cash out here. However, I am so tired of meeting these "minnesota nice" fake, phony people. I truly miss the realness and down-to-earth people from the east coast. I think Minnesotans are fake and phony because they don't want to be referred to as "Minnesota nice". Everyone here is trying to keep up with the Jones' and it's sickening. Please stop complaining about the crime rate. Minneapolis is like Mulberry compared to Philly and other cities for that matter. Gothic, punk rockers shopping at Lunds or the Wedge in Uptown? Give me a break! Never seen so many white girls chasing black men; vice versa, in my life and even the homeless people are fake and snooty; get

so nice! - 6/11/2007
Minneapolis is a wonderful place hands down. The downtown is wonderful. Nicollet Mall downtown is like Michigan Avenue in Chicago but less pretentious. Lake Harriet, Calhoun and others are beautiful. The neighborhoods on the southeast and southwest sides of the city are well kept and very charming. The new light-rail system is a gem. Great job opportunities, great wages, good schools, very educated place. Air service is very good.

A Year in the Twin Cities - 6/5/2007
I moved here a year ago from the Denver area. The main reason I moved here was for career reasons. After a year of living in the land of ten thousand lakes I feel that I can give honest and unbiased advice to people considering a move here. I will start of by saying that when I moved here after grduating from college I had no idea what to expect. What I discovered was not one but two interesting cities. Minneapolis is a large city with beautiful contemporary skyscrapers made of glass. Then theres St.Paul which is a more mid sized city with older more historic skyscrapers than Minneapolis. Both the cities are located ten miles apart from each other and are sperated only by the Mississippi river. What has suprised me about this area is how much natural beauty it has. Never in my life have I seen so many lakes and trees in a city. I guess lakes are to Minnesota what mountains are to Colorado. The main thing that suprises me is how compact this area is as a whole. Its more

Will never go back - 5/9/2007
I lived in Minneapolis as a college student and will never go back. The crime in the city center is not worth putting up with. As a student trying to make ends meet, I worked in the downtown area and was constantly harassed, accosted and physically threatened just because I was a woman and/or white. While minding my own business at a bus stop one afternoon, a stranger threatened to punch me in the face because I refused to converse with him. When I boarded the bus, the others who had been at the bus stop and witnessed the whole thing blamed me for not placating him! What kind of "Minnesota nice" is that? When I got home and reported the full description of the man - not hard to miss with a pimp hat and black eye patch - they did nothing since he hadn't actually struck me. I think the bleeding heart liberals need to re-think their policies. I vote with my

Bad Weather! - 4/13/2007
There are some great things about the Twin Cities, high wages, a few good museums, good music scene, nightlife and restaurants...oh, and shopping if you care. BUT THE WEATHER IS TERRIBLE! I have lived all around the country and must say that it is truthfully comfortable outside 2 months out of the year...June and September. The winter is easily 7 months long and summer is hot and very humid. TRAFFIC IS ANOTHER MAJOR PROBLEM AS IS MEETING REAL PEOPLE THAT AREN'T OBSESSED WITH THEIR INCOME AND BELONGINGS. I'm ready to move back to the rockies, west coast or the

Minneapolis has many problems - 3/19/2007
Minnesota itself gets more federal funding than most states. (I am not sure why) Therefore people have flocked here from Chicago, Somalia and Mississippi because of such. But it seems easier to get welfare than a professional job or promoted. The schools are overrated and underfunded, (check out the schools academic scores). The University of Minnesota has open enrollment (you can get in with a GED).
Most of the houses in Minneapolis are old, built in the early 1900's. You'll pay at least 200,000. The Weather is cold and so are the people; insecure and pretentious. If you are an intelligent single person of color, with no criminal record and drug free, you will not fit in (lol) I am serious. I moved here because I read that the quality of life here was close to the best. After living here for two years, I have to question the standards of the individuals who conducted these test. Minnesota is not the most progressive place to live. I am moving to a more balanced environment.

crime rate increase forcing us to move - 1/6/2007
After living in Mpls for twenty years and spending tons of money and time fixing up our home it was sad to sell it 20% under market rate just to flee with our safety. Burglarized twice just in Oct 06 we watched helplessly as our once nice city has turned into a high crime

It's cold up here but you can't do better than Min - 12/29/2006
As a 50 year resident of Minneapolis I can tell you a little about this city. You would have to look hard to find a city that has more to offer. Good job market, outstanding park system (lots of inner-city lakes), reasonable housing costs considering wages are decent up here.Always something going on in town including pro sports and good theater. If considering living inner city stay away from North Minneapolis as there is much violent crime there. Best suburbs are northwest, west and south of town such as Eden Prairie,Maple Grove, and Minnetonka. Cons to living here is the long winters (although they are not nearly as severe as they used to be).Traffic can be an issue at rush hour but not like L.A. or Atlanta.People here are a little harder to get to know because most are natives of the state and if you speak Minnesotan, well...Still love my

Pros and Cons - 11/16/2006
I've lived in Minneapolis for a long time and am looking to move away. Not for any bad reasons, I just feel like I'm done here and need a change.
PROS: Prices for every day items and utilities are pretty average. Not expensive but not cheap. There are great inexpensive places to shop though. The housing market is a bit expensive. Very little house for your money. Most "affordable" homes are in the bad neighborhoods, like North Minneapolis. (Steer clear from this area at all costs.) There is something here for everyone. No matter what it is you want to do, you can do/accomplish it in Minneapolis. Very wide diversity here. Diversity is the new trendy thing. You will find people from all walks of life and lifestyles; hippie, trendy, blue-collar, young, old, conservative, liberal, etc., Lots of independent restaurants to choose from! Lots of flavors! The job market is good if you know what you want and where to look. Lots of major companies here.
