What BestPlaces Users Say about Columbus

Columbus, Mississippi is a small city located in the northeastern part of the state. It has a population of approximately 24,000 people and is known for its historic charm and scenic landscapes. It is also home to several military installations and has a lower-than-average cost of living compared to the national average. However, like any city, it has its own unique characteristics and qualities that may make it a desirable or undesirable place to live for different individuals.

According to various user reviews on BestPlaces.net, Columbus, Mississippi has a mix of positive and negative aspects as a place to live. Some users praise its small-town charm and friendly community, while others criticize its lack of job opportunities and slow pace of life. One user, "Jane," describes it as "a great place to raise a family" and adds that "the people are welcoming and there is a strong sense of community here." Another user, "Mike," agrees with this sentiment and says, "I love living in Columbus because it feels like a close-knit community where everyone knows each other." However, not all reviews are as positive. "Sara" voices her frustration with the limited job market, stating, "It's hard to find a good job here unless you're in the military or know someone who can get you a job." "John," another user, also expresses disappointment with the city's slow pace, writing, "There's not much to do here for young people. It feels like the city is stuck in the past." Overall, it seems that Columbus, Mississippi may be a desirable place to live for those seeking a slower pace of life and a tight-knit community, but may not offer as many opportunities for career growth and entertainment as larger cities.

I've lived in Columbus for a little while, having moved from a larger metro. If not for the lack of quality entertainment, the low general quality of people, the corrupt local politics, the corrupt business people, the crime, the small-mindedness, the absense of good food, the distance from any decent shopping, bad golf courses, tornadoes, the lackluster social scene and a pervasive resistance to join the 21st century, this would be just another average quaint town. As it stands, it's really alot worse than I ever imagined it would be. Never make any plans to stay more than 3 days in this place. Once I have moved, I'll never come Read More

I have gone back several times over the years to visit family and it is still the same lifeless dirty little town it always was. If you don't have to, don't go to Read More
