you can vist, but you must leave! - 9/15/2012
Please do not move to my back yard. Yes, it is very beautiful here, but is not an open invitation to move here. This town is a superfund site for asbestosis. The air is dirty. What no one will tell you is that every one is sick with one thing or another. Yes, hunting and fishing are amazing, but the wolf population is out of control. Visit, but then get the heck out. Us locals may come off as friendly, but we really dislike newbies. There are no jobs. You can visit, but you must leave!

Far from the Madding Crowd - 8/8/2009
Libby is backed by a huge wilderness area that has gizzly bears, moose, elk, and all sorts of other wild creatures. North of the town of about 2500 where I live, I'm also close to grizzly bear habitat, and deer roam around on the properties -- until hunting season when you don't see many for that time. For those who like winter sports, there is a ski lift (chair lift) 10 miles farther long the two lane road. There are unlimited areas in the mountains for skidoos, and 4-wheelers go on the trails and Forest Service roads in summer and fall. Great hiking, fine fishing in streams, mountain lakes, and on the Kootenai River than runs from a large damabout 20 mioles north, through the city, and west into Idaho.

It's a great place to write, which is what I do. Or start your own radio station, which some of us did. I have my own show once a week -- a classic jazz show with commentary, since I once was in the business. I arranged to write a regular column for one of the newspapers Read More

Best Place on earth - 5/29/2009
I hesitate to give any info....to keep the community small, but it's going to get out none the less. The Libby area has more untouched and rarely traveled forests and Wilderness than anyplace I have been. The Cabinet Mountains Wilderness area had everything an outdoorsman could ask. Hunting, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, etc, etc. These mountains are rugged, yet very accessible. Libby even has it's own small but tough ski resort....Turner Mountain. They say,"If you can ski Turner, you can ski anywhere." Most of the runs are difficult or expert only, but there are a couple green and blue runs for the less than experienced.

Besides the Cabinet Mountains, there is a nice rock climbing area just 60 miles north called Stone Hill. Stone Hill is comprised of short trad and sport routes, with tons of potential for new routes. Routes currently grade from 5.2 to 5.13b.

Fishing is incredible in the Libby area. Whether you want to float down the Read More

climate - 5/5/2008
The climate in Libby in the Summer has been up to 105 degrees and the winters are very long and cold we had snow up over our 4' chain link fence all winter many roofs caved in with the weight of the ice and snow. It is very warm in the summer in this part of the state of Montana. People here predomnantly use their wood stoves for heating. We go from cold and snowey in the very long winter to being in the 100's in the summer so it is either cold or very warm very little in between Read More
