Cigarette Smoke & Loud Engines - 12/1/2009
Two things struck me when I moved to Lincoln, NE in June of 2007. First was the amount of cigarette smoke outdoors relative to Cincinnati, OH where I had previously lived. The second was the volume of motorcycle, automobile, and lawn-mower engines that invaded the city. The latter seemed due to folks not realizing there might be other folks for whom the noise is undesirable, or possibly in spite of the fact that other folks might not care for the noise volume.
The longer I've lived in the city, the more comfortable I've become. Never-the-less, the noise and smoke pollution levels are still counter to my

what I think of Lincoln - 11/4/2009
pros:
very low crime
low cost of living
cons:
constantly changing weather, with very hot summers and very cold winters
not a good city if you don't vote Republican
Lincoln can get boring, especially downtown, where there seems to be nothing to do but eat or go see a movie
Overall, Lincoln is an okay city. However, if you are think of moving here from a city like Los Angeles, New York, etc. I would recommend not moving to

Hope you love football - 10/13/2009
I graduated from the University of Nebraska about two years ago and promptly headed west to Las Vegas to work in marketing/PR with a popular hotel chain. Having lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for about two years (I came here for graduate school from Michigan), I can say that Lincoln, Nebraska isn't the worst place in the world, but I was ready to leave when it was time.
Lincoln, Nebraska is important for two reasons: it's where the state capital of Nebraska is based out of and it's where the University of Nebraska is based out of. So, in essence, Lincoln is a college town. However, unlike many college towns, it's really not that liberal. Nebraska in general is known for being a hardcore conservative state, and though myself I am a moderate Republican, the naive nature of most of the people here gets kind of annoying after a while. Most of the people are friendly in that Midwest sort of way, but open minded and free thinking aren't exactly the two things that come to mind when

not too bad of a place - 10/6/2009
I've lived in lincoln for over 20 years now, and I must admit Lincoln is not a place that I want to wpend the rest of my life in. Its not that it is a bad place to live, but the opportunities in Lincoln are very low. The infrastructure of Lincoln is very poor, bad road construction that takes years to complete a simple 200ft of road, potholes all over the place that are never fixed, and due to the low level of tourist attractions in Nebraska, it will be very rare for any large business to set up in Lincoln. The city management is poor, in which past parts of the city used to flourish with businesses, hotels, and resturants, now contain run-down buildings with adult film/book stores next door. The lack of air travel used by the Lincoln Airport is also poorly managed, with flights leaving from omaha range from $200-$300 cheaper.
Not to mention the "good-life" states weather, the most unpredictable weather I believe to be in the US. The only state I believe where the weather man

Lincoln Climate - 6/27/2009
I have lived in Lincoln all my life (61 years), and would make the following observations about Lincoln's weather/climate:
The weather is, along with high taxation, the worst aspect of living here. It is a place of extremes--very hot and humid for long periods in the summer (June through August), very cold off and on during the winter (January through March).
In general, the "feel" (temperature, humidity) is good in April and May, and part of June; October and November, and part of September. July and August are unbearable for people who don't like heat and humidity; January and February are likewise unpleasant for those who dislike cold.
December and June are transitional months, and can be quite pleasant or awful, depending on the year.
In summer, one of the main problems is that very hot/humid weather sets in and stays for days/weeks on end. And unlike places further west, nights do not cool off appreciably during July and

Quality of Life in Lincoln, Nebraska - 11/25/2008
Lincoln is a great place to live, known for its friendliness and helpful neighbors. With lots of parks and an impressive bike path system, the only thing lacking is a warmer climate during the winter months; however, those who enjoy the cold and snow find as much to occupy themselves with during winter as in the summer in terms of outdoor recreation. Lincoln has relatively low crime and reasonable cost of

College town with a Big Red focus - 6/25/2008
My family and I called Lincoln home for more than 45 years. I moved away last year for three primary reasons: 1)The (often) brutal winter season and humid summer season; 2)Sky-high property taxes; 3)Entrenched left-wing idiology. Housing costs rank as relatively affordable compared to Denver, for example, but you won't have the economic opportunities, etc. in Lincoln that a Denver supports. Also, Lincoln enacted an impact-fee policy in 2004. This adds about $4000 (certain to increase with time) to the cost of an average new home, and the annual tax bill of $3400 on a $175,000 home valuation will shock most of you, right? Lincoln has been very slow - due to a bureaucratic anti-growth stance, paraded as "controlled growth" - to improve and extend infrastructure, which has inflated the cost of buildable lots in recent years. Home prices are not as affordable as you may want to believe. It still takes about $250,000 to find new single-family home in a decent, family-oriented location.

Gotta love Lincoln - 5/18/2008
Lincoln is a wonderful place to live. The older neighborhoods are full of beautiful older homes and friendly neighbors. Sure there are areas that need work, but find me a city anywhere in the world that does not have areas in need of repair.
We have lots of wonderful parks, not because they are unsuitable for building but because we love having parks for our children to play in and for us to enjoy. We also have a great network of hiker/biker trails throughout the city. I will admit we are a little slow to add bike lanes but it is coming.
The homeless population is no different than any other city of our size but has become more visible in the last couple of years.
We are a college town and our downtown is full of restaurants and bars. We have wonderful sporting venues and fans that have class.
Our streets are well maintained, but winter plays havoc on them and spring and summer there is generally lots of construction to repair
