What BestPlaces Users Say about Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico and is known for its beautiful desert landscape, rich Native American and Hispanic culture, and vibrant arts scene. It has a population of over 560,000 people and is home to many popular tourist attractions, such as the Sandia Peak Tramway and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

Albuquerque is a popular city for people looking to relocate, but what do actual residents have to say about living there? According to many user reviews on BestPlaces.net, it seems that opinions are mixed. Overall, many residents appreciate the diverse culture, warm climate, and outdoor activities available in Albuquerque. However, there are also some concerns expressed about crime rates, traffic, and job opportunities.

One user, named Sarah, says, "I've lived in Albuquerque my whole life and I love it. The weather is great and there is always something new to explore. The food is amazing and the people are friendly." This sentiment is echoed by another user named Maria, who states, "I moved to Albuquerque for college and ended up staying. I love the city's blend of cultures and the fact that there's always something to do, whether it's hiking, checking out a new restaurant, or attending a cultural event." These reviews highlight the positive aspects of living in Albuquerque, such as the weather, diverse culture, and abundance of activities.

However, not all reviews are as glowing. One user, Michael, expresses concerns about the city's crime rates, saying, "I moved to Albuquerque for work and I'm not a fan. The crime rates are high and I don't feel safe walking around at night. I also struggle to find job opportunities in my field." Another user, named David, also touches on the issue of crime, stating, "There are some great things about Albuquerque, but the crime rates are concerning. I wouldn't recommend living here to families with young children." These reviews bring up valid points about safety and job opportunities in the city, which may be important factors for those considering a move to Albuquerque.

In summary, user reviews about living in Albuquerque are diverse, with some praising the city's culture and outdoor activities, while others express concerns about crime rates and job opportunities. Ultimately, it is important for individuals to consider their own priorities and conduct thorough research before deciding if Albuquerque is the right place for them to call home.

before you move here - 7/6/2008
be sure to do your "due diligence" and find out things i didnt before i moved here. first off, new mexico is the 47th WORST paid state in the country. and we have the highest gas prices. and the cost of living is not that low, at least not low enough to accomodate the payscale. to live in a decent neighborhood, be prepared to spend 1100 per month if you rent and pay about 185000 on a home if you buy. somewhere else in the country that might sound "ok", but look at the payscale first. on the good side, weather weather weather. and beautiful Read More

Albuquerque - 6/6/2008
I just stumbled across this discussion of Hispanos and Albuquerque while doing research for a grant. I am of Hispanic origin and I have lived, off and on, in Albuquerque since I went away to college. My family came here in the early 19th century. I've lived in other parts of the country and the world and New Mexico "rules" (if I may borrow the phrase from my kids) when it comes to intercultural understanding and tolerance. Everyone here gets along. Why? I don't know. But I have my suspicions: I teach a course on Indo-Hispano Arts of New Mexico at the University of New Mexico, and the history of NM shows a fairly divisive political and social situation here up until 1680 when the Pueblo Indians had finally had enough and revolted, throwing out the Spanish. Thirteen years later, the Spanish returned with a different attitude: you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. No more intolerance, no more violence. It was relatively peaceful for centuries, and today we can still see the Read More

Pros and Cons of ABQ Living - 5/4/2008
The city has a great climate for those in need of a dry sunny atmosphere. Beware of the seasonal pollen counts though (especially Cottonwood and Juniper). We do not get Earthquakes (ie California style) or Hurricanes/Noreasters (ie Gulf coast or southeastern seaboard). And we are even free of Tornadic effects (ie the midwest). But due to the rocky mountain chain we seem to be protected from these severe weather effects, the down side to this means that the weather can be changeable (ie the local saying "If you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes) and very localized (ie it will be raining on one side of the street, cats and dogs style, and totally bone dry on the other). But remember also, we live at approximately 5000 ft elevation which means the air is a lttle thinner then coastal living. And the final thing about "High Desert Living" (that is what the local Chamber Of Commerce calls it) is the ever present dust that blows in from everywhere (this includes the dust that travelled Read More

Great Place - 4/8/2008
Albuquerque is a great place with a ton of character and diversity. The city is blooming, and becoming a fun place to be. The education here is, to be honest, sub-par. The cost of living is reasonable, and the climate is phenomenal. It is, however, difficult to find a well paying job; even with Read More

crime in NM - 4/2/2008
I lived in Albuquerque for 12 years and I have been robbed 6 times 2 times in the North East heights tools from my truck called police nothing happened. Took my 5th wheel to be fixed on central Ave. all the tools hoses chairs and barbaque was stolen. Had a 2002 Dodge diesel with 11,000 miles stolen called police I was told they do nothing until 7:30 am; it was 5am when I called. Do you think the crook knew this he had a 3 hour start to the Mexico border before the cops know? I also had a break in new years eve 2006 trying to still another truck my neighbor seen them and yelled 2 of them turned and started shooting at him and drove off in a car they stole earlier they where caught the next day because the car they stole had Onstar in it. After thousands of dollars later and the judge letting them off because they where juveniles. There is no help for the victim in Albuquerque only for the criminals, and they now it that is why there is so much crime I talked to a lot of cops and they Read More

Small, Big City - 3/26/2008
I spent 4 years in Albuquerque prior to living in the Seattle, WA area and I can't wait to get back. I heard everything bad about ABQ before I moved there and factually most of it was dead wrong. Supposedly 49th in the country in education, we tried and pick one of the best school districts in the area - La Cueva and were very happy with our choice. As a comparison, our oldest child went from a GPA of 3.5 at middle school in ABQ to a 3.5 GPA at Interlake High School in the Bellevue, WA school district without a hiccup. Bellevue School District is consistently once of the highest rated school districts in the country.

As for weather, there is no comparison. If you like wet and rainy, Seattle's your place. They have a local term called "sunbreaks" which means there's a chance the sun might peak through the clouds on any given day. I missed the 330 days of sun I was used to in ABQ. Instead of putting on a hat or carrying an umbrella, you put on sunscreen. Cost of living in Read More

A Great Climate - 2/24/2008
Albuquerque has a great climate if you like warm weather. Although we have four distinct seasons, the winters are short. The summers are hot and dry.
