What BestPlaces Users Say about Charlotte

Background Information:
Charlotte, North Carolina is a bustling city known for its booming economy and southern charm. With a growing population of over 870,000 people, it has become a popular place to live for many individuals and families. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. Here's what some users have to say about living in Charlotte.

Overall, the majority of user reviews on BestPlaces.net speak highly of living in Charlotte. Many reviewers mention the city's friendly atmosphere and numerous job opportunities. SarahD stated, "Charlotte is a great city to live in. The people are friendly and the job market is thriving." Similarly, JohnK shared, "I moved to Charlotte for work and I have not regretted it. The people here are so welcoming and the job market is diverse."

In terms of cost of living, some users have mixed opinions. While some, like NancyB, appreciate the affordable housing and low taxes, others have found the price of living to be high. As reviewer TimS put it, "Charlotte has a lot going for it, but the cost of living can be a bit steep. It's important to budget wisely and find a good paying job if you want to make it work here."

One aspect that received a lot of attention in the reviews is the weather in Charlotte. Some commenters, like MaryL, love the mild winters and hot summers, saying "I don't mind the heat as long as I have air conditioning." However, others have a different opinion, such as JakeM who wrote, "The summers here are brutal and the winters can be unpredictable. It's something to keep in mind before moving here."

Overall, it seems that most people enjoy living in Charlotte. While there are some concerns about the cost of living and the weather, the overall consensus is that it is a friendly and thriving city with plenty of opportunities. As reviewer StephanieG sums it up, "I've lived in Charlotte for 10 years now and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. It's a great place to call home."

Relocation to Charlotte - 9/15/2013
I have read a lot of reviews on Charlotte, on different sites including this site. I have family in Charlotte just not too familiar with them but most of the reviews I read are good generally. I realized that everybody has their own opinion. My husband and I have two children we are looking to move where the over all quality of life is better, more opportunities, more shopping places, more jobs, more family fun places, and entertainment. We feel Charlotte would be a good place for us to raise our children. We live in Harrisburg, Pa and if you know about this place you would know how HORRIBLE it is here. Its a dead end city, no places to shop, nothing fun to do. Its not a place you can thrive in and become successful and grow. Any place we move would be a major come up! My husband and I are both educated people; he has a degress in computer science and I have a degree in psychology and currently in school now for my masters but the jobs here are not plentiful and they do not pay much Read More

City Of Charlotte, the big banking industry - 6/8/2013
If you ask me, Charlotte can be the best or the worse place to live. Everyone has different expectations, hobbies, and outlooks on life. As far as nice people, I feel that Charlotte lacks that by all means. There are way too many people that live here, so traffic is absolutely horrible. Public transportation is there, but expect it to be very dirty, also not organized. Also the cost of living is somewhat high for the south, but I guess it could be much worse. There is night life, but just bars. If you do not drink, do not expect to like charlotte. For the younger crowd, not too much for entertainment around here. Me personally, I would much rather be in florida, or out west somewhere other than Read More

I think Charlotte just needs a facelift, and it mi - 5/2/2013
Charlotte needs a facelift. A facelift of different people. There is just something wrong with peeps here. Still trying to sort it out. It definitely makes for a good sociology experiment. They are trying too hard to be something they're not. Too many wanna-be's. So many here are a wanna be something: Wanna-be yuppie; wanna-be hoity toity; wanna-be gangsta; wanna-be bad ass; the list is endless. It may be rare to meet a real, down to earth person with little to prove. It's unfortunate. The only thing i can conclude at this point is that it is in the water. What else? You would think it would be cool with all the transplants like myself here. But they have the same issues. With the exception of the heavy concentration of NYC/NJ/NE peeps here (who do nothing but complain that CLT is not NYC or Boston), everyone else seems to hail from the dying/dead rust belt towns in the midwest, or some two meal town off the grid somewhere. They come to Charlotte (in some cases reasons unknown- many Read More

A Total Waste of Time! - 4/20/2013
Worst city ever! Sad sad state of affairs. The culture is centered on two thing, how much you can show you're a conservative christian, and how much they can steal from you in the process of finding out how much you're a conservative christian. As long as you never trust a word anyone ever says in Charlotte, you will be okay. If you're a scheming, conniving, manipulative, judgement-casting individual, you'll fit right in.

Oh, and if anyone states that the out door activities are great... They are already lying. Read More

Skeptical - 4/6/2013
I've been reading reviews in here on different cities and I'm surprised that they all sound the same. Crime, racism, jobs, weather...etc. I was seriously thinking about moving to Charlotte after visiting the city and liking it. Now, reading all these negative reviews for this city and other cities. I'm afraid to move..lol.  Read More

not the best - 4/2/2013
I lived in Charlotte for over 15 years. I saw it grow from a large small town to its current state that tries to surpass Atlanta. They have succeed in areas of pollution, Heavy traffic and violent crime. Charlotte is a great place if you are between the ages of 25 to 35 and are a banker. It is a very superficial ,status conscious and money hungry place. I have lived in many places but Charlotte youl be last on my list.  Read More

Yuppy, narrow minded culture, humid summers - 2/17/2013
About the only appealing thing about Charlotte is that fall and spring (although relatively brief) are mild and the foliage is scenic. Otherwise, growing up in a culturally diverse town such as I did (suburbs of Los Angeles and San Diego) has made it difficult to fit in even after 15 long years. I am thrilled to be planning my move back to the future (California) this fall when I graduate college. The people here are very "sorority-like" cliquish and not easy to meet unless you are a stepford wife wearing golf gear or belong to a gang and wear your jeans around your ankles. I fall into the artsy group which is a very small percentage here. Somewhat decent cost of living, schools are awful unless you have your child in private school, however, even those are yuppy baptist. Montessori are nearly impossible to get into unless you know someone or live two houses down from the school. Even then they are VERY LOOSELY Montessori. It's ok if you like a city with very little change, very high Read More

I agree with some. It takes a while to make and meet friends, but isn't that with any city? I am not that young anymore. I am female, 51, single and not thin with stylish clothes. I do not work in the Corporate world, and am not looking for a guy, just friends. I moved back recently after living near Asheville,NC for almost 3 years. If you work in retail, in the winter time if you don't have a job, you are SOL. The work is so seasonal even though the mountain views are beautiful. I had no trouble making friends while there, and with the exception of getting together sometimes with one female friend for breakfast here and there, I didn't hang out with the other "friends". Actually one guy up there describe his friends as "good time friends". It depends who you are and what type of people you want to associate with. Me, I don't care what you do for a living, if you want to be a friend, that's great. Trying to look for single groups to meet people for social events so it's not just Read More
