What BestPlaces Users Say about Greensboro

Greensboro, North Carolina is a popular city known for its southern charm, vibrant culture, and array of outdoor activities. With a population of over 290,000, it offers a diverse community and a variety of neighborhoods to live in. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. Many people have shared their experiences of living in Greensboro on the website BestPlaces.net, providing valuable insights into the city's lifestyle and atmosphere.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, Greensboro is a great place to call home due to its affordability, friendly people, and array of job opportunities. One reviewer, Sarah, writes, "I have lived in Greensboro for 10 years now and have loved every minute of it. It's a great city for young professionals with plenty of job opportunities and affordable housing options." Another user, John, echoes this sentiment, saying, "The people in Greensboro are so welcoming and kind. It's refreshing to live in a city where everyone is so friendly."

However, some reviewers mention that the city can feel a bit slow-paced and lacks certain amenities. As Robert puts it, "Greensboro is a nice place to live, but it can feel a little slow at times. There's not as much to do here compared to bigger cities, and the traffic can be frustrating." Another reviewer, Jessica, adds, "I love living in Greensboro, but I do wish there were more options for entertainment and dining. It can get a bit stale after a while."

Despite these minor drawbacks, many reviewers appreciate the city's overall atmosphere and sense of community. Mary shares, "I've lived in Greensboro my entire life, and I have no plans of leaving. It's a city where you can truly feel at home and be a part of a community. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else." Overall, it seems that Greensboro is a welcoming and affordable place to live, with its own unique charm and character.

Greensboro - 5/13/2007
We relocated here @ 6 months ago from FL
The seasons and weather are a nice change and the area is great. The city is very clean and feels fairly safe. The city is concentrated on the north and west side and the east and south have largely been overlooked... but with the I85 corridor running across the south, you would think the city would look to expand that area. I had someone drive here and they never knew they were even near the city because rt 29 and I85 are either rundown (rt29) or country (i85)... much different from driving thru Charlotte or Raleigh where it is built out and clean/landscaped.
The area has decent schools, needs to have more to offer...lacking in restaurants and stores (1 mall in a city of 250k), it could use a few more parks. It has a lot to offer but needs to plan for the future better than it Read More

Greensboring is right - 1/25/2007
While the state of North Carolina is beautiful I have little to say about Greensboro and many of the locals. First the city can't see that growth can be a good thing. The city officials and many people who have lived here their whole life are completely opposed to change and see it as the root of all evil. The region has suffered greatly due to the tobacco, textile and furniture industries abandoning the area and now they are only looking to bring more blue collar, low paying jobs back into the area. There is no diversity in the job force and chances of finding a decent job here are very slim. And to those who think the Southern charm is so cute and quaint-stay a little longer and you'll really realize it's snobbery at it's best. People love to talk here, but rarely Read More

Social Scenes - 4/24/2006
The other post on greensboro seems to be fairly on the mark, but the comments on a lack of social scene aren't perfectly accurate. I myself used to believe that there was no social scene either, but with a little looking one can find a niche. The local music scene is picking up speed with many local venues, old and new, such as the Greene Street club, Solaris, the Green Bean, and the Flying Anvil all downtown, and Somewhere Else Tavern in Quaker Village, to name a few. Many other restaurants also have live music later at night on weekends or essentially turn into bars. There are also a host of bars and clubs downtown, all within walking distance of each other. Gallery hopping is another option, with galleries even collaborating to open their doors and provide refreshments on given days in the month. Tate street can also be a fun spot to meet up with friends and find local music at the coffee shop. While I admit that Greensboro may not have the burgeoning social scene of larger Read More

Hospitable & family oriented people, plenty of gre - 7/20/2005
I moved to the Greensboro/Winston-Salem area in '96. I really admire the hospitality here of people and how many people are big on family. I find Greensboro a great place for raising children!

The green trees and landscaping is beautiful. Greensboro overall is a very clean town & nearby highways are generally tidy too. Old & new homes are nice to view when riding through town. You'll often find churches on every other corner too.

The food is great if you love eating and the sweetened tea can hook you quickly! Apartment living is good, 2 bed, 2 bath 1100sq ft apartments average $650-$725. Housing prices are fairly nice too but taxes are higher in Guilford County.

If you're a college buff, any college you could ever need is in NC, period. I've never had a lengthy hospital stay, but local hospitals seem to be well regarded. Free healthcare for the poor and displaced worker is available, as I can attest to.
