My memories - 10/1/2010
I first lived in Pepper Pikes,(a suburb) then in the city, I loved the West Side market. I love the Western Preserved, the folliage in Autum, the incredibly beautiful dowtown library, where I learned English and going to all the festivals: Irish, Polish, Italian, etc. I left in '77 due to the cruel winters, otherwise I'll still be calling Cleveland Read More

The Pros and Cons of Cleveland and the Cleveland A - 9/27/2010
I was born and raised in Cleveland and in the Cleveland Area and I would like to share the Pros and the Cons of Cleveland. First I will start with the CONS.

CONS

1. Poorly run and Corrupt government.
2. High taxes
3. Poor Public Schools
4. Incompetent Police Department.
5. Inability to re-invent itself in a way that can attract businesses.
6. Not as "Cultured" as other cities if you are into that type of thing.
7. Sports teams that are hard to cheer for because they are more disappointing then a deadbeat father.
8. Uneducated voters- they vote for the same people that are part of the problem.

PROS

1. Cost of living is still relatively low compared to other cities.

2. Contrary to what people think, there are things to do here. There are tons of sporting events, concerts, museums, nightclubs, shopping, food, parks, outdoor recreational, etc. Its not as good as cities Read More

Cleveland is a large toilet bowl - 7/26/2010
I have lived near Cleveland for over 30 years. I avoid the city as much as possible. The Veterans Affairs hospital is brimming with snooty kids studying medicine at Case. Also, there are many blacks that work in the VA hospital in Cleveland whom have some sort of vendetta against whites. The blacks that work there will not say thanks or you are welcome, obviously they enjoy their guaranteed positions in the government. I hate Cleveland. I hate the roads, The dirty air, yuck. The annoying educated white people who wear striped shirts and drink Starbucks are very sickening. If you are there at night, you might get shanked or shot. Yay. This town is dirty, and it is just a mess. Little Italy is really cool though. Everything else sucks. Read More

A Little Defense - 7/12/2010
I have only lived here for a little less than a year and plan to move when I am done with grad school, but only because the plan was always come here for Case Western and move back home. Reading some of these posts makes me think Cleveland needs a little defending because, it isn't nearly that bad (maybe because I have only lived here for a year).

First, for the repeated culture bashing I saw below, this area is actually quite rich in that area. There are unique ethnic neighborhoods abound; plenty of museums including the rock hall of fame (the Cleveland Museum of Art is currently going through a major renovation that will essentially double its already impressive size--for a city this size), the Museum of Contemporary Art is getting a brand new home designed by a world renowned architect; the Museum of Natural History is about to begin a complete remodel and expansion, etc. (the list of museums/gardens is actually quite long); Playhouse square is the home of the second Read More

What happened? - 6/17/2010
I moved back to Cleveland about a year ago and was shocked. I have only been gone for 7 years, but it seems like the city has gone down hill. The public schools sound even worse than when I attended them and downtown seemed like a bunch of empty store fronts with people wondering around aimlessly. The only two good things I have heard about are the hosiptals and the metroparks. The job market is bad unless you are a nurse. There are many homes that are empty (less population) and boarded up. Now, a bill passed and a casino is being built in the downtown/Flats area. I can see more crime coming this way. I just hope I can move to a new state soon, as I am not loving comeing back to this Read More

Cleveland Love - 6/4/2010
To all who have written horrible reviews calling Cleveland "disgusting" with its inhabitants all "crabby, cranky, and pale", I say that I'm sorry that you feel that way, but if you don't like it you can leave. We don't need any more negativity here. Obviously you have not bothered to explore any of this city other than the local sports bar, where of course you will see people drinking and watching sports (which is all you claim Cleveland has to offer). On Anthony Bourdain's travel show he claims that the episode where he explores Cleveland was his favorite. Why? Because we've got character. Yes the weather is rough in the winter, but we have beautiful fall, spring, and summer seasons as well. If you are not tough enough to brave a little snow, move back south. We could do without driving behind you while you are going 10 miles an hour with an inch of snow on the ground anyways. Downtown has its rough parts but also has very bustling entertainment districts with bars, comedy clubs, Read More
