Quality of Life - 3/11/2014
Well, in short...It Sucks !!! It's become like the movie "Escape from New York". The city of Lorain has the highest amount of sex offenders and other criminals. The roads are like that of a third world country. The surrounding townships are high in racism. Job's !!! Ha !! Don't make me laugh. The upside to Lorain is that it looks like the set for the movie "VAMP"!!! Welcome to Mini Cleveland !! Well, the good side is that we're not Cleveland, but at least we're not Detroit. Go Tribe !! Loain-city in decline. - 7/6/2011
I lived in Lorain for over 40 years of my life. It used to be a nice
place to grow up and then raise a family.
I return every year to visit family and meet up with old friends. When I visit there, I have to stay in a motel outside of this city of 70,000
because there are no hotels or motels in Lorain. A few years ago,on one
of my visits I went to the city maintained? cemetery and found very tall
grass and overturned and misplaced gravestones throughout.
The roads in town are atrocious and at times treacherous. What does
this city do with all of the taxes collected? They have property taxes,
state income taxes, and city income taxes. I realize this city has lost
most of its industry base, but, what has the city gov't done to attract
more?
I currently reside in Florida, where all we have is a property tax,
which is comparable to that of Lorain. You could not pay me enough
to return to live in Read More

Where has the morale gone - 4/4/2008
Living in Ohio is very unmotivating. There have been job cuts, homelessness and uncompassion all around us here. We strive to get ahead and take care of our families. The youth are lazy and are notuse to the work ethnics that most teenagers were taught growing up by our parents, communities and churches. The main cause of this is most parents have to work harder to buy their children the necessities so there is not enough hours in a day to explain to your children that you have to work to earn what you want. Even if you do you run across someone who impresses your children.............The Read More

Schools - 7/12/2006
Lorain is currently in the process of rebuilding its schools... Most of the schools are pretty old and have structural issues beginning to become problematic. School system thinks it is more cost effective to demolish and build new schools than to repair/upgrade the existing structures. At least there won't be any asbestos in the new Read More

Lorain's Weather.... or Lack Thereof - 6/23/2006
In Lorain we have a saying... if you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes - it'll change. Lorain is home of water spouts, rain on one side of the street and not the other, and other peculiarities... including varying amounts of snow... Lorain is not in the "snow belt" of Ohio but sometimes we come pretty close to beating the "snow belt" snow Read More

Infrastructure - 11/23/2005
This city is building new developments with little or no plan for basic for future or existing dwelling or business. The storm sewers are inadequate to allow proper drainage in normal storms, in a worse than normal storm 2 people drowned in a flooded underpass.
