Steubenville Ohio Sucks, so does Wintersville - 11/21/2016
Terrible area, no restaurants, no stores. One of the deadest areas in the USA. Corruption everywhere. If you are not one of the local attorneys, good luck on starting a business. Most are owned by a small group, who have control over building inspectors. Outsiders beware. Cops are abusive. Very high crime, even though the cops won't take reports of it. High heroin usage. A lot of bribery goes on here. More stores closing by the day. Hookers everywhere. If you like dumb dirty corrupt people, you may fit in Read More

Whoever says there is nothing to do here is not in - 4/3/2015
I moved to Steubenville from Youngstown on April 1, 1991 and have never regretted it. Steubenville has so much to offer with few drawbacks, we have two colleges in the city-one is a large faith based institution and the other is Ohio's fastest growing Community College. We have a thriving historic district currently with two bed and breakfast in two lovely restored Victorian homes known as Bayberry Properties. We have some of the most beautiful architecture you will find on our turn of the century buildings located in our downtown business district. We have a large retail distribution center located next to an Industrial Park that is nearly full with businesses located just west of our city border. We have Ohio's oldest Harley Davidson dealer just west of our city border. We have 4 nationally known hotel chains located within our city borders and expansion expected to begin in the summer of 2015. We have many national franchise restaurants within our city as well as numerous family Read More

Still a depressing place to live - 7/29/2014
I grew up and moved back to the area about 15 years ago to a neighboring town that shares the same zip code. This place is very depressed and hasn't improved even with the oil/gas "boom." That industry helps the young, strong men that can work 16 hrs a day. The steel industry is gone. Nothing really here in the town to work at ; most people must commute to Pittsburgh or Coraopolis, PA. Gas in this area is much higher than surrounding areas. Not sure why. Lots of crime in Steubenville and the police are having problems controlling it. Nothing really "to do" and certainly no shopping or decent eateries in the area aside from a few local places. No decent chains. THe weather sucks, it gets very cold and its overcast alot and rains. Very gloomy. I wouldn't come here if you didn't have to. Dean Martin left and was happy he did.  Read More

How Metro Crime Rates Are Fundamentally Flawed - 2/1/2013
Unfortunately, demographics of metro centers are to broad and general to give a clear & concise measurement. Case in point is the Steubenville, Ohio / Weirton, West Virginia Metropolitan Area. Anyone living within a one hundred mile radius will tell you of Steubenville's notorious reputation for crime. That's both blue collar and white collar crime.

While it is common for weekly shootings , rapes, and other violent crimes in the 43952 zip code, it is very rare of the similar crimes in Weirton, West Virginia. Steubenville has many street gangs involved in the drug trade and has a storied reputation of police and political corruption.

The town of Steuebnville uses the watered down statistics of crime from the metro for their advantage. Imagine lumping together Manhattan with Harlem or Compton with Palm Springs. So, before you decide to shell out cash on a publication for Places Rated, remember they do not go out of their way to break down the zip codes and Read More

Poor, Sad, and Dirty - 1/15/2010
I was born and raised here. The population has dropped in half since I left for greener pastures some years ago, and that probably sums up everything you need to know about this town. As far as employment opportunities are concerned, you might be able to find part-time work at Wal-mart or Bob Evans if you're lucky, but I wouldn't count on it. Some folks move to Steubenville because they're shocked at how cheap the houses are. Big mistake. You can find a run-down house to buy in the downtown area for about ten grand, but you'll be stuck with it forever. Nobody else will ever buy it. Most of the buildings downtown have just been boarded up or torn down. (Steubenville might have been a good place to start a parking lot business, but there aren't enough people around with cars that run.) Steubenville's politicians and civic leaders never tried to develop any new industries or tourist attractions over the years because they assumed the steel mills and the mafia would be there to keep Read More

Terrible - 10/27/2009
Steubenville, Ohio is an AWFUL place to live! I've lived here the last 5 years, and while it was purely because I was attending the University, I'd never stay living in this area. The court system is awful and unfair, and if you're moving from a big city or suburban area to Steubenville, you'll be greatly disappointed. Also, it's a relatively well-known fact that local businesses will hire locals over FUS students/grads any day, despite how qualified you may be. Really discern your reasons for moving here; this is not the "heaven" that some people make it out to Read More

I live here dont waist your time here - 8/4/2009
Ok so I noticed some people love this place apparently they have no goals or ambitions or want to work for a living cause the work is not available here and wasnt any better during the times the economy was great everywhere else. If this place is so great why are people constantly moving out and most businesses have closed ? most places that are great grow or atleast maintain a stable population.I am moving just as soon as my house gets rented.Anyone that defends this place either has the time to drive to pittsburgh everyday for work or doesnt need or want to work.As far as liberal not really lots of racism here out of both the whites and blacks.Pittsburgh is a two hour drive once you fight the traffic there so its not like this is just a distant suburb. As far as it being a nice little town its not if you like small towns thats great pick wheeling wv which is 45 minutes away or east liverpool ohio 1 hour away. This advice is coming from a local thats been here for 31 years of my Read More
