Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a bustling city located in the western part of the state. With a rich history and diverse culture, Pittsburgh attracts many residents from all over the country. Pittsburgh has some of the BEST public transportat - 6/11/2006
I'm not sure why someone posted that Pittsburgh needs better public transportation, but I had to add a comment. I have lived literally all over the place and you can't beat Pittsburgh's public transit system for a city this size. Unlike many cities, you can get ANYWHERE here by bus or subway for a mere $1.75-$2.50 with all kinds of mothly and weekly passes for regular riders. AND a new light rail system is in the works which will add even more convenience. I have lived in Pittsburgh since 1998 and while there are things about it I don't care for (TAXES! Cold winters!), public transportation here is not a Read More

Pittsburgh-Animal House - 6/10/2006
Pittsburgh, a la Western PA is a habitat for the uneducated, rude, ignorant, and laziest people in the world. Having lived in nine states and four countries and spending too many years in Pittsbrugh area I left. The schools are atrocious (many have a ratung of 2); people tend to be beligerant and difficult to wrork with; cost of housing is high compared to the quality of the house in construction and finishing; teacher's are paid in the top three of all the states and students graduate in the bottom 25%; corruption in government is rampant-nepotism is very common and extreme; roads are extremely poor and poorly maintained; pollution is very high and cancer rates are in the top 15% in the country; taxes are high since government payrolls are among the highest in the country. Since 1984 the population in the Pittsburgh area and student enrollment has decreased by nearly 50%; there is no economic growth and both UPMC and Univ. Pittsbrugh are behind the times by a decade in teaching Read More

It's OKAY - 6/10/2006
Pittsburgh does have affordable properties. However, the taxes will make uo the difference!!! The employment is getting better. As for religion being listed at 71% within the population, I would assert that this statistic includes the gay population. Most church leaders in the Youngstown and Pittsburgh area are either bisexual or homosexual. Although both areas have been affected by the steel industry, you will be surprised to know that the pittsburgh region is another San Francisco Bay Read More

Need advice beore moving - 6/8/2006
I'm considering moving from Chicago, IL to Pittsburgh, PA and I just had a few questions.

Are there any tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes or any other weather storms and if so how often?

How is the crime rate?

I have a 6 year-old, and I would like to know if the schools are okay in the south suburbs?

Is the pollution still a major problem?

Pittsburgh Weather - 6/7/2006
Over all, Pittsburgh has far too few sunny days. The temperature is acceptable, but the lack of sunshine is, in my opinion, a big minus in terms of weather. Summer tends to be somewhat humid, but not Read More

LITTER AND POLUTION - 5/21/2006
When I first moved here it was quite depressing. All water is poluted from strip mining or steel production. Many of the small streams run orange here.

You would think the most popular sport is football but it's not, its littering. Burger's think nothing of driving along and throwing litter from their vehicles. They think their city is clean. I suppose it is compared to the real steel producing years when the air was so polluted it appeared to be night when it was really daytime. Let's face it if you are looking for clean air, water and surroundings don't come to the Read More

good surprise - 5/17/2006
I moved to pittsburgh from manhatten one year ago.
i loved ny and was pretty sure i would not like pittsburgh, but i have been wrong. It is a great city to raise kids, there are excellent schools, and the people are very friendly. i have to admit that for young singles it doesn't compare to ny but not many places do and i've lived in many different cities. There are plenty of cool areas to hang out however, and if you like sports its a tough town to beat. it seems to be a city that is steadily improving, and when the new casino, arena and downtown housing project is finished, i think that the downtown will become a bit more like ny. the suburb life here is amazing. there is very little traffic, plenty of golf, country clubs, low cost of living, and parks. it is also developing a diverse population especialy in areas like squirrel hill and shadyside, with some unique ethnic restaurants available. bottom line is don't be afraid to move here, it's a good place, and if you Read More

I love it here!! There is no place like it! The su - 5/15/2006
In the Summer time, there is no place like it! I moved here about 4 years ago and I wish i would of come here sooner! The absolute best place to live in Pittsburgh is Squirrel Hill, where everybody is friendly, and scenery is beautiful, and there's tons to do! You're right next to everything! The Schools, parks, museums, movie theatres, concert halls, biking trails, walking trails, food markets, skating rink, and everything else is just minutes away! Everybody is down-to-earth and approachable, you're guaranteed to get a smile or responce with a simple "hi". Nobody here is too "highly" minded that they look at you any different. This place is great for families or young people looking to get active. There's everything for everyone here. It's cheap, and the traffic isnt too time consuming compared to other big cities. The people love thier sports here. The one thing i will say though, although the summers here are really great, the winters can be very cold and gloomy. But besides that, Read More
