Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a bustling city located in the western part of the state. With a rich history and diverse culture, Pittsburgh attracts many residents from all over the country. These reviews come from individuals who have first-hand experience living in the city and can provide valuable insights for those considering making Pittsburgh their home.

1. In their review, Susan R. describes Pittsburgh as "a hidden gem" with "tons of character." They go on to praise the city's affordable cost of living, saying "I can afford a nice house in a safe and quiet neighborhood without breaking the bank." Susan also mentions the abundance of outdoor activities and cultural events that make the city a great place to live.

2. James S. shares a similar sentiment, stating that Pittsburgh has "a unique charm that is hard to find in other cities." He also mentions the strong sense of community and friendly neighbors as major positives. However, James does note that traffic can be an issue, especially during rush hour.

3. According to John P., Pittsburgh is a "city of endless opportunities." He highlights the job market, education options, and entertainment as major draws for him and his family. John also appreciates the city's efforts in revitalizing its downtown area, making it a more vibrant and livable place.

4. In contrast, Emma L. expresses some disappointment with Pittsburgh, saying that it "lacks diversity and can feel very insular." She also mentions the weather, noting that winters can be long and harsh. However, Emma does acknowledge that the city has a "small-town feel" and is a good place to raise a family.

Overall, it seems that Pittsburgh offers a unique combination of affordability, community, and opportunities for its residents. While there may be some challenges, such as traffic and weather, many reviewers found the city to be a great place to live and would recommend it to others.

Good and bad like everywhere, but a very nice plac - 5/14/2006
I moved to Pittsburgh by choice in 1990 to go to school at Pitt. I've lived in several other places but the minute I set foot in the City for the first time in 1989 I fell in love with it. When I graduated in 1995, I moved to the Hudson Valley area of NY, but promptly returned in 1997 & have lived here since. It really is a gorgeous city with a lot of history, culture & personality. Beautiful views abound. While there are self-centered idiots everywhere, for the most part, drivers - and people in general - are more polite, kinder, more helpful and less aggressive than I have seen other places. Drivers let you in and wave their thanks to each other. Another plus is that the crime rate is far lower than in many other cities Pittsburgh's size. The police, fire and EMS departments are decent, though grossly under-equipped and under-appreciated for their importance for maintaining a high level of quality of life. The public schools leave a lot to be desired, depending of course, on your Read More

Looking to relocate. - 5/11/2006
I am on here looking to relocate. How's the job market and cost of living in the Pittsburgh area? I am especially referring to the job market in the insurance field. Plus, how's the singles market in terms of finding single, childless women 25 and Read More

The City that Always Sleeps... but has a lot anywa - 5/11/2006
Pittsburgh has a great cultural district... tons of places to eat, sightsee, and definitely see the best shows in the country! The theatres are great, easy to get to, and house some of the biggest shows. Don't miss out on Point State Park, a BEAUTIFUL summer afternoon picnic spot, or hop over to PNC Park for a cheap ticket to a superfun Pirates game. Downtown PGH = the place for summer Read More

College Town - 5/9/2006
Pittsburgh is an adjustment from rural communities. It's also not quite the style of Eastern Pennsylvania cities like Philadelphia. If you're underage it takes a while to find things to do for entertainment. If you're over 21 there are many bars and other attractions for adults and the business world. The downtown part of Pittsburgh shuts down around 6:00 P.M. it's a working city and most of the business people don't live in the city. So as it gets later it gets quiter. Wish being from suburbia its a bit relaxing. Living in down town is convienient since all of the bus lines come through and you can go to all of the towns outside the city. Lots of college scenes in Oakland, since Pitt is its own little city. As soon as you're inside the Pitt strip it becomes a different world. Slightly reminding me of New England. A bit modern and a bit antique. Pleasant... but never quite. Lots and lots of business oppurtunities in Oakland and the South Side. Southside wouldn't be the best suggestion Read More

Pittsburgh, PA vs Topeka, KS - 5/6/2006
So far, I have no compaints about moving to Pittsburgh, PA, over 4.7 years ago. I love it for the scenery and the culture as well as the abundant amount of open-minded individuals I have met here. I cannot say that about Topeka, KS, where I seemed to meet a lot of narrow-minded Read More

Underrated city... - 3/23/2006
I moved to Pittsburgh from Atlanta, GA and heard all kinds of horror stories before I made the initial move...(like the weather is horrible, there are no jobs, industrial city, dirty...etc.). Believe me when I tell you that NONE of these apply. The weather gets colder in the winter, but as far as overly gloomy or snowy its not true. I obtained a great job before moving here, but the job scene and economy are growing rapidly. I love the compactness of the downtown area...its not spread out all over the place like in Atlanta.
Traffic can get heavy around rush hour, but overall its great. The city has beautiful aesthetics and neighborhoods, including Market Square, the Southside Works, Shadyside, Squirrl Hill, and the Golden Triangle! Its not an Industrial Steel city anymore, besides its technology base, due to Carnegie Mellon, its slowly becoming a biomedical and pharmaceutical based city. It is one of the most livable cities and one of the safest I recommend it to anyone Read More

Couldn't Disagree More - 2/11/2006
Pittsburgh is so not what the "Dr." of 11 years has described. My husband, a doctor, moved us here two years ago, and we have found our slice of heaven. We live in an area that boasts some of the GREATEST SCHOOLS IN THE NATION. The people are excessively educated -- from post graduate degrees to those gifted in the arts. We have been welcomed over and over again. Our social life is grander and much more fun that it has ever been. Yes, Pittsburgh loves its sports, and we love that about this place. Hopefully we will never move. We call this area of the burgh our little Mayberry. I don't know where "Dr." lived/lives, but I am sorry he never found our little slice of heaven. Local governments will always have their probablems. Economies will always ebb and flo. We have lived all over the United States -- from West to East Coast and even in between. We have lived in cities ranked #1 by Money magazine. Out of them all, Pittsburgh has far surpassed our expectations, and it is the place we Read More
