Lived Everywhere & Back in da Burgh - 2/8/2006
Don't get it twisted ... Pgh is cool as HELL!!! Low cost of living ... cheap housing ... the key is finding cool people. I grew up here & hated it ... but I've lived in Tampa, Myrtle Beach & Boston & I'm back in da 'Burgh ... I'm happy to be here ... the quality of people here are so real, so hard working, so honest & so AMBITIOUS!!!! It's about time, not just b/c of the STEELERS, that this town get some REAL recognition!!!! PGH needs some more open-minded, educated, cool-as-hell- people to inhabitate the area!!! I'm stayin' & everyone else BEST BE FOLLOWN!!!!!!!!Read More

Pittsburgh Stay Away - 1/25/2006
The economy and job market is the worst in the nation.
educaiton in the area is well below average according to state records. Out of a possible 10 (highest) a majority of schools are actually rated below 4. Politics are unbelieveable and corruption is rampant in the municipal ande county governments. Nepotism is the worst I have ever seen, after living in 9 states and 4 countries. People still talk of the "Steel" days and high pay. Teachers are paid the third highest in the nation among states and still complain about salaries. Teachers in the area have gone on more strikes than any other teachers union in the United States. Compounding the poor quality of life is excess pollution, a high degree of un-education, and a generally beligerant attitude among the average person. Of course, the area is very good in sports. It fits the general countenance of the people. Do not be deceived. Pittsburgh, and in general Western Pennsylvania is one of the worst places in the world Read More

Beautiful City - 12/9/2005
I recently moved here from San Francisco, CA. I was dreading it b/c I always heard not so great things about Pittsburgh. Got here and seen all the beautiful LUSH vegetation surrounding the city, and all the historic neighborhoods like the southside, shadyside, squirrel hill, Lawrenceville, and Oakland. This city is really underrated for all there is to do here....recreation in winter and summer, art museums...including the Andy Warhol....and the people are down to earth and friendly. The bar seen is always hopping with the stip distict and southside slopes and all the after hour clubs its wonderful and fun. I currently live in the blossoming North Pittsburgh area and find myself 10 minutes to downtown attractions, but feel like i live in the country......Beautiful......you need to see Read More

The Burg - 10/3/2005
It's a good city if you are married, conservative,or are raising a family. The people are very nice generally. It is much more of a "married city" than a "singles city".
It an older city with a substantial over the age of 65 population giving it a more provincial flavor. For example an inter-racial couple still gets double takes on city streets. The same would be true for a gay couple holding hands or with their arms around one another. The economy lags behind the rest of the country. A dearth of professional jobs. Younger and middle aged tax payors are moving away. Reasonable housing prices. Very high taxes especially the real estate tax. Lower rate of single people. Higher ratio of single straight females vs. single males-great for male singles! Bad for female singles. Fragemented government too many layers of government and beuracracy resulting in unresponsive government with high taxes.
Great culture-world class symphony, great museums, good ballet, good theatre. Good for Read More

Pittsburgh - 8/17/2005
Since moving to Pittsburgh, PA, i have found it to be the most underrated city in the nation. There are many things to do: 3 pro sports teams, a great nightlife and cultural scene. There is nearly every advantage of a big city, with none of the disadvantages such as traffic. Also, Numerous big cities are a short drive away. (your city comparison chart is also wrong: the closest Big City to Pittsburgh is not Washington at 160 miles away, but Cleveland, OH at 132 miles Read More
