Decent culture but no sunlight - 10/20/2008
Traffic is a nightmare here. The parkway is the worst road ever, next in line only to the PA turnpike. Downtown is small and has a variety of activities, but the city does get old after being year for a little

love the city, hated the job market! - 9/3/2008
I was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area for the first 27 years of my life. I honestly never wanted nor planned on leaving, but I met someone in Wisconsin and frankly the job market blew pittsburgh's away with much higher paying jobs and better opportunities, so I moved here. I love Pittsburgh and would love to go back some day, but I couldn't make my home and life there due to the

Stop complaining about the weather - 8/6/2008
I know that some people do not like the lack of sunshine and cold. I do not think people are fair to this city at all! I lived there my whole life and yes it rains, and it snows. The sun does shine in the winter- maybe not as often as in so cal- but it does show itself. The spring is absolutely, absolutely beautiful- fall beautiful- the summer is fun, thunderstorms add to this. Winter is fun, too. I was always outside despite of the weather- I sled with my kids and go skiing or ice skating, throw snow balls. I always looked at it like it was exercise. There are beautiful winter retreats in the mountains. The seasons make you appreciate what you do not have. I think Pittsburgh is an awesome wonderful city, and I miss it

Economy vs. Employment - 6/25/2008
Living in Pittsburgh many times I must report that the economy, cost of living and employment is going through a great clash. Many existing companies have folded and moved out of the area completely. Occupations have been limited down to marketing and sales which is really hipocritical considering business is slow and nothing is taking hold.
The county taxes are ridiculous and continue to rise for know reason but for government profit so they can invest into more self developed business for more.
They have also sold themselves to foreign investors which is leading to more unemployment. Personaly I have three degrees in Visual Communications and Fine Arts yet I'm disabled. Though I received some finacial assistance when it came for job placement assistance none was provided. When submiting a job to my counselours they deny it stating it doesn't meet to their standards and it requires investigation which doesn't take place.
Because of my disability

Not the greatest place..but you can judge for your - 6/1/2008
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. I'm still here as a matter of fact, but after I finish grad school, I'm outta here. I don't know if the city is truely bad, or if I'm just sick of living here. The dating scene is pretty bad here, not too many tall men at all,(if you're a tall girl like me you understand the frustration.) It's next to impossible to find a job here if you only have a bachelor's degree. All there seems to be are stupid sales jobs that no one in their right mind would take unless out of sheer desperation. It's cold and cloudy here most of the year, and of course there's no beach really close if you like the ocean like I do.
I basically consider my hometown really blue collar like. It's not really a big city for professionals unless you are in the medical field. Pittsburgh does have various colleges and universities to attend. It also has several parks, such as Highland and Schenley...but you can only enjoy those in the summer...but too bad half the time

I do not want to die here - 5/19/2008
I read Chris' review & agreed so fervently with it that i felt i had to chime in and back up pretty much everything he says. As someone who has been here for 25+ years I feel I can speak on a wide range of topics regarding the town.
1. Regarding Pittsburgh, one thing few people understand is that downtown Pittsburgh (aka The Golden Triangle) is actually quite tiny, in addition to being quite old. So Chris is right: maneuvering downtown streets is akin to a Manhattan rush hour & parking is both precious and pricey. But guess what? That's where most of the jobs are (what few there are), so get used to it.
2. Another glaring negative for this town is the absolute lack of any beltway system around the metro area. Long ago the Pittsburgh city fathers rejected the idea of a beltway because they wanted people to have to basically funnel into downtown and back out to get anywhere (thinking this would bring commerce.) Fortunately Allegheny County loses

easy and interesting place to live - 5/12/2008
Of all the places I've lived and spent time, I've found Pittsburgh to be the best place to live. The topography is beautiful - three rivers (Pittsburgh has more bridges than any other city in the world), hills (two of the inclines that used to dot its mountainsides still operate daily)and valleys. And very green. It's easy to live in the city itself. Blue-collar, white-collar, academics, professionals, and the wealthy all live in rather close proximity to one another. The medical system is top-notch: the Univ. of Pgh. Medical Center is always highly rated in U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT; there are numerous universities - some, such as Carnegie-Mellon, among the country's most outstanding. And all their campuses - I can think of 7 at least - are in the heart of the city. The Pittsburgh Symphony, ranked as one of the world's finest, is housed in a beautiful old movie theater (the first Nickelodeon was in Pgh) and a block away is another magnificent old movie theater where the ballet
