crime rate - 9/1/2016
Mayor Jessie Bloom let the philly crackheads come here for rehabilitation and they did not leave. They brought their criminal ways to the port. This was once a nice town to live in. It really is a shame. I have a lot of good memories there. But nowadays just don't read the Williamsport Sun-Gazette because you will be disappointed unless you like watching cops in 3D. Read More

Utterly Disguisted - 7/3/2016
I have lived in Williamsport my whole life, I am 32 years old, and have been married for 12 years,my wife and I just bought a house in a "bad" neighborhood, and the reason I am utterly disguisted, is because of the plagues of leeches/criminals this town has taken on..Firstly I work 50-60 hours a week, and my wife works 50 hours a week, and MANY of our neighbors do not work at all, and they drive nicer cars then us,well let me back up, I guess they do have a "job", because they sit on their porch and talk about different drugs to sell, so they can "maximize profits", and yet these are the same people that get upset when they can't use their access cards to buy cigarettes(I don't know why ,because just like all the other leeches ,they can just take cash out on their access cards , and buy beer, drugs, or whatever they want). And just the attitude these leeches have like they are entitled or privelaged, I just want to tell every one of them , that the only reason they have food to eat is Read More

Its all in the attitude! - 2/13/2010
I have to say, we moved here so my husband could finish school and it has been a very pleasant place to live! The cost of living can't be beat and with a growing natural gas business, I foresee this place really growing in the next few years. People here are family-oriented, for the most part. The downtown has some nice places and there is a growing artistic community. It is true you will not find the 'big city' options, if that is what you are looking for, but I have personally found it a great place to be for this season of life! I lump myself in with those who are hopeful for Williamsport and see it growing and changing for the better...
There are plenty of outdoor things to do if you like hiking, hunting or fishing and we're within driving distance of some bigger cities. We have lived in Phoenix, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut and Lancaster, so, those are places I compare it to and I appreciate the small town feel. Plus, it has Wegmans and I love it...and will Read More

Focus On the Positive - 9/14/2009
If your an optimistic person who is able to find beauty and positivity and not always focus on the worse of things than I'm sure you would be able to appreciate what Williamsport has to offer. As in just about any city you go there will always be great parts of the city and not so great parts. Williamsport has its very small share of crime, drugs, and poverty but there is many great aspects of the small city as well. There are nice parks to go to such as Brandon Park and Memorial Park that you can take your children to with brand new safe swing sets and play areas for your kids to enjoy. There are beautiful lakes and streams if your into nature. During the summers you can take your family to a Crosscutters baseball game and enjoy the fireworks afterwards or you can go to the Little League World Series where people from all over the world come to our town and enjoy the game. If you are pursuing an education we have two colleges here in town that can provide you with a great Read More

Culture, what's that? - 5/9/2008
Ask the general Williamsport citizen what culture is, and at least 85% of them will ask you what culture is. If you check out our schools they receive more funding per student than the national average, and the schools' teachers are great, but their is an apparent disregard for education in the area. Why? Because if you are one of the few that go to college and graduate, you move away. The main professional jobs in the area are doctors, teachers, and nurses. If you go to Penn Tech for nursing, you can guarantee yourself a job, doctors don't want to live here because the cost of malpractice insurance is ridiculous, and as far as teaching jobs...the area is virtually impossible to land a job. Teaching is like nursing in almost every state except PA because we have a college or two in every little city, and half of them graduate as teachers.

The schools cannot reflect what parents don't help with. If the average parent doesn't have an education than the student is already Read More

Billtown-do you really want to live here or visit - 5/9/2008
Let me start with this little city that everyone calls little philly...why do they call little philly you may be asking yourself on the outside? Simple, a former mayor decided to bring the worst of Philly's population to Williamsport for rehabilitation purposes; however, they didn't rehabilitate and only added to the crime and drug problem and the total destruction of our downtown area.

Williamsport's one claim to fame is it started little league baseball and host the little league series once a year.

We have many places to shop and eat, but no one has any money so they charge it or live in a trailor to buy the fun things life has to offer.

The other positive thing about Williamsport is, if you have the money (are a professional which they are the minority job opportunities), you can live rather nicely here with the average house cost so low, just watch out where you buy your house! People like to have their indoor furniture on the front porch. Read More

crime and housing - 3/7/2008
I don't understand why you have to build new homes when their are hundreds of homes sitting around vancant and the real estate market of home values has dropped. people don't want to live in williamsport because of crime. a well kept home 30 years ago in what was a very safe and respectable neighborhood is now drugs and crime. I don't know where you received your information, but I can tell you that crime is up and violent crimes are up and williamsport is very well known as little philly. we have no new businesses ,{ big plants coming in}. we have lots of bars, banks, and welfare here. years ago a mayor started a program for recovering addicts. every since then williamsport has been subject to so much influx. williamsport high school is not what they say it is. theie are so many gangs and fights there. the local paper does not report any crime at the school. you need to do your home work and get the facts. i live across from williamsport and at one time it was a great place to live. Read More

Nothing... - 9/19/2006
Do you like to hunt? Do you like rednecks and people with missing teeth? Well then, Williamsport is for you!! Seriously, I am the first post. This site has been up for how long? This should tell you a little bit about the people and culture of Williamsport - education and the outside world, not a priority. I grew-up very close to Williamsport, but got the hell out of the area. Unfortunately, Williamsport does not have much to offer. It is great if you like to hunt or fish, but other than that - lame-o!!! I haven't had the chance to hangout downtown for quite some time, but I am sure that is the same; the college kids hang at The Pub and The Cellblock; while the artsy people go to The Bullfrog and Francos. But, the redeeming quality is the beautiful landscape. Williamsport, situated on the Susquehanna River, and accented by beautiful rolling hills, is gorgeous in the fall. It is also home to great subs, a hard commodity to find elsewhere. Nevertheless, another major Read More
