York, not the best but above average place. - 5/6/2019
I've lived here for 60+ years. York refers to itself as the factory capital but they are disappearing. Population is sprawling but gradually more apartments are populating the area. Costs are average to below in relation to neighboring states but taxes are high and road conditions are below average. There is a lot of agriculture in the county but it too is being replaced with developments and warehouses. It is still quite easy to find a home on a wooded lot or an apartment in the city. Great housing diversity but attitudes are still slightly redneck in this area. I'm thinking of moving to another state for retirement due to high taxes and health costs. On the plus side, the cities are Read More

My assessment of York - 7/12/2017
I lived in the East end of York city basically on the Border of spring Garden township. Moved there in 2005 and left in 2015. These are my opinions and views from my perspective, nothing more nothing less.

Here is my review:

Weather: I will start with weather as many people find this the first thing they look for in a town, The Summers are hot (in the 90's and sometimes 100's) and somewhat humid (not like Florida or South carolina or anything but still humid) The Winters can range from mildly cold 30-40 degrees to a frozen hell of sub zero temps, snow can range from barely any one year to 2 30 inch snowstorms in one week with several more large snowstorms all winter, so as far as winter goes you never know what you will get. Oct. and May are the only really nice months.

Property taxes: HIGH HIGH SO DAMN HIGH!!!! Highest percent wise I have ever seen in my life...and I lived in NJ before. I can give you an example, my house in York was assessed Read More

York PA - 11/7/2009
This area of the country totally sucks. The weather is cloudy most everyday. Winter is cloudy AND windy which makes it miserable.Snow removal is pathetic.I lived in York City for a year & they never plowed the side streets so my car was stuck for 5 days once. When the wind blows from the west you can smell the horrible air from the papermill in Spring Grove. Weather is soooo much nicer out West (cant wait to move there!!). If you're a person who likes the outdoors DONT move here. I hate the east Read More

Boring, extremes of hot and cold... - 8/23/2008
I moved to this area 9 years ago with dh because of his employment. I found it an area that was hard to make friends being that people are into clicks. however, building in a new neighborhood we made friends with neighbors whom most moved here from other places. It gets very hot and humid in th summers and cold in the winters. The nice days we do get which probably add up to 3 weeks combined is very enjoyed. We feel like we must be out all day on the scattered days that we get. York is an ok place to live, not much to do, no nightlife, no cultural things, semi-safe becoming less and less safe, high school/property taxes. I am sure there are better and worse places to Read More

Born and raised in York. A few comments for anyon - 5/11/2008
Greetings everyone!

You can see most of the demographics of York on this site so I'll do my best to summarize what may otherwise not be data logged. I'm 25 years old and have lived in York most of those years (minus college and a few months here and there for internships). I tell you this because my viewpoints may differ due to my position in life in comparison to your own. Understand that these are just my opinions and others will undoubtedly disagree.

The City:
York City leaves much to be desired. The city government seems to try hard to revive city life and they've done an honorable job to this point with the addition of a new minor league baseball stadium and a renovation project called the "Northwest Triangle". Personally, I have trouble envisioning a safe, hustling bustling town with successful small shops and restaurants. There's just too much crime and poverty and not enough money and police to keep the place safe. There are, however, Read More
