Beautiful city - 5/7/2007
I lived in Charleston most of my life and raised two children in private schools in the old historic district. I believe Charleston has more to offer than just about any mid-sized city in America. It offers so much history and culture as well as beautiful beaches and fabulous dining.
The only draw back is the prices of homes downtown now and taxes. If you can afford it, don't live anywhere but

Charleston, SC - 5/6/2007
Charleston, South Carolina, is arguably America's most beautiful city. The downtown historic district features some of the most gorgeous 19th Century architecture in the United States. It's a very friendly place, and a very walkable city. Charleston has many outstanding restaurants, and a few other interesting tourist attractions. Other than hot humid summers and periodic hurricane risks in the last summer/fall, its climate is anywhere from perfect to reasonably good. A really bad day in the winter is a cold (mid 40's) rainy day, and they are few and far between.
Visting Charleston, and living in Charleston, however, are two very different things. The education in this area is mediocre at best. Most public schools are struggling. The private schools, while less expensive than those in the northeast, are generally very traditional and not particularly geared for today's forward-looking students. With the exception of the Spoleto Festival in late

Can someone tell me...? - 4/3/2007
What is life like in Charleston for a single gay man (not into bar scene at all, but freindly social life suitable for meeting people)? I have lived around the world and am considering Charleston as a place to settle. However, I am also a Northerner? How much of an issue would that

Lowcountry weather - A nice blend of the 4 seasons - 3/18/2007
Charleston weather is a nice blend of the four seasons, leaning a little heavy on summer. If you like a mild winter and an extended summmer season, Charleston may be the right place for you. Winter usually brings daytime temps into the 50's/low 60's with a few days of 30's mixed in just enough to wear some traditional winter clothes. Spring and Fall are really mild and can warm up quickly during the day and then cool off comfortably at night. Summer temp's can range from the high 80's to upper 90's during the day. The temperatures are really ok....it's our humidity in late July and August that can make it a little tough. You get used to it, make jokes about it, and then really appreciate it when the warm summer temp's transition back into a mild fall in late October/November/early

I couldn't have said it better myself! Loved visiting Charleston and Isle of Palms but didn't know what this area was really like until moving here, WITHOUT doing my homework. Plan to move away in 2008 since we have to be in our house for two years or pay capital gains tax! SC itself isn't that
