Nashville, Tennessee is known as the "Music City" and is a popular tourist destination for its vibrant music and food scene. Good areas for urban dwellers to live in Nashville - 6/13/2007
My opinions are professionally unqualified so please do your own research.
We live in the 100 Oaks area. Nice place. Very close to just about everything that a city dweller would want. Pretty good schools (something that Nashville is not well known for).
Our dream neighborhood would be the Hillsboro/Vandy area. Obviously, close to Vanderbilt Univ. Great shopping and things to do within walking distance. Very good schools. Expensive and prone to traffic congestion. I would still live there (and may someday) regardless. Top notch.
We used to live in the Sylvan Park area. Nice older established area. Close to downtown. I don't know about the schools. House prices are starting to rise. Had some crime issues when we were there, nothing violent but still something to

Unfortunately, the most "progressive" or left-leaning areas of town are also the most crime ridden. Then again, that seems to be the case in most cities, not just

One of the hidden gems - 5/7/2007
I've lived all over the country: LA, Boston, Milwaukee, Iowa...and I have to say that Nashville is a hidden gem. You need to get beyond the country music cliches. The city is a musical hub, and that means everything from rock and roll to the symphony. You can see Evlis Costello playing on the Grand Ole Opry or witness Neil Young singing "Sweet Home Alabama" at Tootsies. Music folks don't care much about boundaries, so you'll find all sorts of interesting things going on. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, including upscale places and down home joints. The city is growing fast, and that means new restaurants are opening up all the time. The best part is the city is growing ethnically, so you can finally enjoy authentic Mexican, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai

Great Place - 4/14/2007
Rucurringly among the top on multiple topic "best city" lists in recent years; e.g. Kipplinger Magazine's current No. 1 overall quality of life city, with added comment about its phenomenal and diverse entertainment scene (freq & ranging from the expected country thru most else to very full classical offerings in new symphony hall) ; repeatedly named US most friendly city; top 10 for citizen avg. education level; great public library facilities; about 12 area cololeges/univs; no. 1 for corporate relocations; etc. Restaurant scene very sound for this size city. Economically vibrant and has become ethnically diverse. Clean for a lg city and in a beautiful topographic surround. Crime has risen and air is said to be

Need info on Politics - 4/11/2007
Would someone Please tell me were the most progressive part of the city is to live/work/play? Our politics are VERY "left" and we really don't want the "suburban" lifestyle. Were a mid-40s professional couple (she's a middle school teacher) with no kids. We like inde movie house's that show inde films, CO-OP'S and organic foods, (we here that you'll have a Whole Foods Market at Hillsboro Cir soon.) Also, If there are any areas to stay away from because of crime ect.Any and all info would be very helpful, we plan moving to nashville in the next 2 months.thanks very much,

The most boring place on earth - 3/28/2007
I lived in Nashville for almost 2 years, and have also lived in NYC, ATL, and Memphis. I have to honestly say that Nashville has to be the most boring, racist big city that I have every been too. The only thing that they have going there are the Titans and there are some outlets for small business opportunites, minus those for minorites. I think that Memphis over all is the better of the cities in Tennessee, although the Memphis crime rate is a bit high. I have to attribute that to it being the 18th larget city in the nation. That brings big city problems. There is nothing to do in Nashville unless you are a redneck. It is a big city with a small town

My husband and I are former residents retirees. It was our desire to retire live in Buffalo and enjoy the grands.Buffalo is alright city schools are the pitts except for a few good teachers.Religion is tribel in every area they have and serve their own God and limit themselves with fellowshipping.Employment pitiful, youth programs have become scams to get grants, neighborhoods full of youth and children with nothing to do, landlords own properties in the city live out of state or in suburbs collect rent from section 8 tenants in shaddy areas and life threatening areas, however they have created their own comfort zone in the downtown with their condos and loft apartments design to attract selected bodies. My husband lived there all his life and I 31 yrs.I love the winters but the city has a cloud over it that doesn't encourage you to live there anymore. We not going to discuss the vietnam wars in the streets EVERY day. I suggest sent the rapist, child molesters, murders, and drug dealers
