Nashville QOL - 5/12/2006
My wife and I moved to Nashville from Atlanta 5 years ago and we really enjoy it here. Houses are more affordable, the traffic is immensely easier to deal with and work life balance is easier to maintain. We do miss the shopping and dining but that is more than offset with the quality of life Read More

Anyone lived in both Nashville and Atlanta? - 5/7/2006
Has anybody out there lived in both cities recently? My husband and I are absolutely fed up with Atlanta! We hate it, hate it, hate it!!! The traffic, low pay, corrupt governments, skyrocketing rent. Did I mention low pay? He heard recently that GA is behind 48 other states in poverty levels. Only Louisiana is worse off. And Atlanta is particularly bad because, while it is expensive to live here, the pay has not kept up with the cost of living at all.

We are looking to Nashville as an alternative, despite the fact that I'd have to take the bar exam again. I've heard that commutes there are like 20-30 minutes. But, I'm concerned that the pay might not be there. Would we just be getting into another bad situation? In my research, the cost of living for Atlanta is always estimated at only slightly above Nashville. Is it true? Are they really that comparable? I just have a hard time believing it. Another thing that makes me think it might not be true, or at Read More

Response for Nedra - 4/5/2006
I currently live in Antioch, TN and I would highly recommend that you seek out buying a home soon after you make your move to the Antioch or Murfreesboro area. Why? Because what you are paying for you 3BR apartment is considered a good deal compared to what you will pay here for renting (possibly $800-$1000+ for a 3BR). Both Antioch and Murfreesboro are growing rapidly and new subdivisions are springing up almost daily. Antioch is within Davidson County (Metro Nashville) and the schools are getting really crowded here. Murfreesboro may have better options where public schools are concerned but TN as a whole is known for its horrible public school systems. There are many great private and magnet schools in the Davidson County area. I'm not so sure what Murfreesboro (Rutherford County) has to offer but it is near Antioch and lots of people are moving to the area from all over. Antioch has a more diverse culture. Also, buying a home here is much more reasonable than renting Read More

tornados are no problem - 3/22/2006
I've lived in Nashville 5 years, and can remember maybe 3 incedents of tornado watches or warnings. There are some serious storms that come throught he area occationally, but unless you live in a trailer park (unfortunatlely it's true,) the worst that happens is the power shuts off for a while. Overall the weather here is mild and pleasantly temperate. An easy place to Read More
