What BestPlaces Users Say about Nashville

Nashville, Tennessee is known as the "Music City" and is a popular tourist destination for its vibrant music and food scene. However, for those considering living in this city, it's important to get a sense of what the local community thinks about it. With that in mind, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net to get a better understanding of what it's like to reside in Nashville.

According to user "Mandy", Nashville is a "great place to live" with a "strong sense of community" and "tons of opportunities for work and entertainment." She also mentions the city's "beautiful parks and green spaces" as well as its "friendly and welcoming people."

In contrast, user "John" shares a different opinion, stating that Nashville has "too much traffic" and "overcrowding." He also mentions the "expensive housing" and "lack of affordable options for young professionals."

Another user, "Samantha", highlights the diversity of Nashville, saying that it "welcomes people from all walks of life." She also mentions the city's "amazing restaurants and music venues" as well as its "strong job market."

User "Steve" expresses his love for Nashville's charm and hospitality, stating that "the people here are genuinely friendly and welcoming." He also mentions the city's "low cost of living" and "abundance of job opportunities" as reasons to love living in Nashville.

Overall, it seems that Nashville has a lot to offer, from its strong sense of community and entertainment options to its diversity and job market. However, some negatives, such as traffic and expensive housing, should also be considered before making the move to this city. Ultimately, it seems that Nashville is a place that can cater to a wide range of interests and lifestyles.

White guy from Texas' perspective - 6/5/2018
I'm a little biased as I'm a home grown native guy from Texas who has family and VERY CLOSE ties all across Texas. I'll try to be objective here...

Many of the negative reviews are "spot on"... If you come to visit with friends it will be AMAZINGLY FUN!!

But living here is VERY, VERY different....

Coming from Texas, I've heard people describe Dallas as "fake", Houston as "trashy", and Austin as not "Southern" and San Antonio as "too ethnic/diverse"

Honestly... all of those would describe Nashville IMHO.

The state of Tennessee is GORGEOUS and I do admire the Vanderbilt area and surrounding areas But inner city Nashville, in my opinion coming from Texas, is pretty fake, (VERY) trashy, (VERY) not Southern, (WAY TOO) diverse/ethnic.

You may come for the weekend and head out on Friday night, ALL DAY Saturday, ALL DAY Sunday and thiink that it's the greatest place on Earth and you'll probably "love" your Read More

Depends on Priorities and Preferences - 5/15/2018
I own real estate across the country (mostly condos and duplexes) so I have a pretty "well traveled" knowledge when comparing cities you could say.

I own property in:
Fairfax, VA, Virginia Beach, VA, Charleston, SC, Charlotte, NC, Lexington, KY, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, Austin, TX, St. Louis, MO, Minneapolis, MN, Madison, WI, Scottsdale, AZ and Nashville, TN

I will give an OBJECTIVE standpoint on Nashville or "new Nashville" is what they call it.

Tennessee is a LOVELY state and I really enjoy the towns or "other cities" in TN that often get overlooked... Knoxville, Clarksville, Chattanooga, Franklin and Brentwood are lovely cities.

"(new) Nashville" is very different than most cities i've ever lived in or have owned property in.

If you are upper middle(to upper) class, educated, and criminal/drug free than STAY in/around the West End/Green Hills/Vanderbilt area

I cannot say this enough!

You'd better like - no, love - country music. - 5/6/2018
Because you can't avoid it. Well, truthfully, there are probably 3 or 4 bars in this city that will play/perform other than country music, but that's about it. BB King's and Rock Bottom come to mind, can't think of any others. Nice city but with a VERY narrow cultural Read More

Also... there's a LOT of FAT people - 5/3/2018
I'm not trying to be "mean" but there's a lot of fat people....

Sure if you're attractive and eligible the DATING SCENE in Nashville (as a guy) is/was easy... But there is or SHOULD BE a lot MORE to a city than just the dating Read More

Better to Visit, also depends on type of person - 5/3/2018
So I'm going to be "real" and "genuine" here...

The SURROUNDING areas of Nashville are nice... so this review stay STRICTLY for INNER CITY Nashville.

If you DO choose to LIVE HERE then I would choose to live in the West End/Green Hills/Vandy area (they're all in roughly the same areas of the city lol)

This isn't a city for young professionals, unless you like to settle for less...

There are "fun" areas outside of Broadway(which is SUPER SUPER touristy/transient and a place to avoid if you LIVE here). The Gulch, Demonbreun and Midtown are fun areas in the city... BUT...

Those areas don't put it at an "advantage" over comparable cities.

For example, if you want to live in those areas and COMPARE it to let's say Knox-Henderson/Uptown Dallas... then CHOOSE Dallas. It would be an INSULT to Dallas if you chose those over Dallas.

Another example, if you compare those to Uptown Charlotte(only about Read More

So...

Nashville doesn't TRUELY "live up" to the Hype but it's not bad either...

It tries to paint itself as "Southern" but the reality is it isn't... Probably compared to places up North or the West Coast it might be "southern"...

Actually the surrounding areas and suburbs (Brentwood/Franklin/Murfreesboro/Knox/Chatanooga/etc) would definitely be classified as "Southern".

Tennessee is a VERY BEAUTIFUL state as a whole let me say that... when the weather is nice that is (lol).

Nash just doesn't really live up to the "hype" . It is VERY, VERY touristy so it can seem very "transient". I will admit that part of the reason I came was I had a connection from another state for a VERY VERY HIGH PAYING job.

Although it is the country music capital... It just isn't that Southern to be honest with you. In comparison, I would call Lexington as very Southern. Nash seems much more liberal in comparison. That's not Read More

Nice Try - 3/7/2018
I've lived in the metro area going on about eight years. Six of those years were spent in Murfreesboro as a student of MTSU. While I generally liked the Murfreesboro area, after graduation I considered moving to Nashville as that’s where the majority of the jobs were/are. It took me no time to quickly gather that Nashville is nothing like its suburban areas, totally different vibe. One of the biggest gripes I have about this city is the housing. I don't mind paying a decent penny for somewhere relatively decent to stay; but what you get for what you pay is almost laughable. I've stayed in two different apartments in two different areas of town and BOTH apartments had issues you wouldn't think them to have as much as the price in rent was. My first apartment had mold everywhere from the walls, to the cabinets to even smelling it through the vents, yet I was met with a very nonchalant response when mentioned to the office. My second apartment, while a tad nicer in appliances, was Read More

Main issue is lack of affordable housing.
Employment is good but average salaries lag behind the rest of the country.

Truth about IT City or New Nashville - 6/9/2017
First thank you Sperling’s Best Places for all your info. I have decided my post-retirement career/retirement city and state! I did check other sources and got in touch with people living in areas and ordered relocation info packets to follow-up to each city/state as mentioned in Town Hall meeting.

Alas, greater Nashville/TN did not even have a chance. Reasons and the following truths hurt but needs to be stated why Greater Nashville/Tennessee lost:

Frankly tired of the ‘driving while single female’. This includes Sumner Co where I relocated after being told by Metro Nashville PD they would not help regarding my stalker since no children/or intimate with him (Nashville PD words not mine). So far as I can tell, this is a State problem as well. Yes folks you can tell by tags who newcomers are: examples: older tag 123DDD or DDD377, new tags have 1A37A1 or A1371A. Real easy to spot the older tags. The cops check you out driving toward and passing then turn Read More
