More than Country Music - 10/5/2008
Nashville is a very diverse city. People who have never been here probably think it's all about country music, but it's very diverse. Numerous colleges, museums, state of the art sports facilities, many parks, and a lively downtown scene. The biggest drawback is traffic. Whoever designed the U.S. interstate system in the 50's apparently never expected converging three major interstate in downtown Nashville would be an issue. The lack of a "ring freeway" makes it virtually impossible to cross town on a freeway without hitting the downtown loop. Otherwise, it's a great city to

our sad school program - 8/8/2008
in deference to what has be said about Nashville/Metro schools, I must chime in and comment.
Metro has one of the poorest graduation percentages in comparison to other districts. While a lot of money may be spent on education... not very good results. High drop out rate, poor test scores, and a sense of gloom in the teaching ranks. The city got rid of the last head administrator.
Many people with resources (money) move to a neighboring county or enrolls their kids in Private schools. the Metro school district is a

Nashville Public School Systems - 7/8/2008
The public school system in Nashville is a joke. I've never lived in a place where private schooling is so common - now I know why. If you want your child to experience a positive learning environment with a quality education, you basically have 2 options: 1) live in the most expensive area in town - average home cost is around 500k (or) 2) pay to send your child to a private school (between 6k - 15k annually. Unfortunately, this is a major drawback to living in this

Nashville: The Athens of the South - 6/28/2008
Nashville has all the culture of a much larger city in part because of the many universities and colleges located in Davidson county which provide all the educational, theater and music events conceivable. There is a world-class symphony and symphony hall, a wonderful Art museum (the Frist) - the venue for top-notch exhibitions, and a renowned Botannic garden at Cheekwood. On top of all of these, Nashville is also the home of country music and the Grand Ole

Nashville is a delightful place to live - 4/29/2008
I have lived across much of the United States, from New York City to San Diego, and in towns as small as a few thousand. That's a total of 14 states and about two dozen cities and/or towns. I regard Nashville as the best quality of life of any place I have lived. We live within 15 minutes of all the places we want to go: universities, medical care, downtown, schools (including magnet schools), theaters, ballet etc. We also live in a neighborhood with a large park and greenways, for walking, running, bicycling, etc. We live within a 10 minute walk of about a dozen restaurants (including one of the best in the state), a neighborhood pub, several stores: Target, SteinMart, Radio Shack, etc. Nashville is great. (I can not say anything positive about the state legislature, however.)
