Better than the Arkansas Side, But Still Hiding So - 12/3/2016
Texarkana, Texas is the main powerhouse of the wider Texarkana-Tex/Ark Metro Area (if you can call it that). This is a good small city which has all the amenities for a comfortable life. However, it is not all what it seems from directly off the interstate where most of the newer/more frequented businesses are. The reality is that while a powerful minority of the community is rich, white, and educated, most people still live in relative squalor. However, you probably won't see that side just driving through. If you're looking for a home, consider the neighborhood first! Otherwise, you might be getting randomly robbed or even worse. Best parts: Anything north of I-30, Spring Lake Park neighborhood. Worst (from my experience): State Line Avenue, Downtown, New Boston Read More

Texarkana "Twice As Nice?" - 10/31/2015
As a life long resident of Texarkana, I've always felt a sense of pride for my city. However, I recently had an eye opening experience. After the company I worked for more than 15 years decided to downsize, many individuals such as myself became unemployed. I quickly found out that Texarkana's "Twice as nice" motto is just that a CATCHY ATTENTION GETTING CATCH PRHASE!!! EXPERIENCED/EDUCATED Individuals seeking a decent paying job will be greatly disappointed with the "good ol' boy" mentality of so many hiring agencies and company personnel.
The majority of individuals who are lucky enough to find employment must settle for positions that either under utilize or having no bearing on their area of education. Such job seekers must prepare themselves to be underemployed; forced to work in laboring and taxing positions in one of the seemingly endless local production, fast food or customer service positions. Sadly, many of the supervisory positions are held by individuals who Read More

Texarkana: A GREAT place to call home! - 3/14/2012
Texarkana, USA is a exceptional place to live and work!I grew up on the Arkansas side(Graduated from AR HS & Texas A&M-TXK with BS, MS) and I have lived the past 20+ years on the Texas side. I have two girls that have gone and one still attending Morriss Elementary. The TISD Martha and Josh Morriss Mathematics & Engineering Elementary School offers an innovative engineering curriculum along with an accelerated mathematics program that has provided a rigorous and seamless STEM education that serves as a national model for how young children can become engaged and educated. All of the local school systems have made great strides to provide challenging academic programs. There are 5 High schools located within Texarkana, TASD, TISD, L.E.ISD, PGISD & Trinity Christian School. We could not be more pleased with the academic opportunities within Texarkana, USA for educational advancement (Texarkana College, Texas A&M-TXK and U of AR-Hope-TXK). The I-30 corridor has exploded w growth over the Read More

Nice place...but - 9/16/2011
It's a nice city to raise children in; very safe; friendly people.
The job situation is not great. The pay isn't high either. There's not much professional employment unless you know the right people. Schools are good though. No nightlife! Not an easy place to be young and single.
Texas side is the good side. Arkansas side is a scary ghetto dump. Read More

Awful Place to Live - 2/13/2011
This place has so many negatives that I don't know where to begin. Low paying jobs, nothing for families to do, streets are falling apart and very few sidewalks, low income housing projects everywhere, overpriced homes, crime, an abundance of correctional facilities, run down areas out number the nice areas, and the list goes on. The town itself seems more like a large truck stop. Avoid this place like the plague!!!  Read More

A Growing City and a friendly town ! - 10/14/2010
Very nice town. I have not lived there in a long time, but it is my hometown. There is a new four year University there. Texas A&M @ Texarkana. This city compares with Longview and Tyler, but is smaller then those two East Texas towns. Very conservative, but a great place to come home to. The city has local bus service, Amtrak, Greyhound, and air service to D-FW four times a Read More

T-Town Love - 7/15/2010
You have to live in Texarkana to really appreciate it! Like any place, it has its share of positives and negatives. But it is a pretty town, just the right size for a lot of people's liking. It is located within easy driving distance of Dallas, Little Rock, and Shreveport. The people are friendly and high school sports are a big deal here. You can find a nice home in a clean and attractive neighborhood for under $200,000. I lived there once and would gladly move back! Read More

I grew up here! - 6/18/2009
I have good things and bad things to say about Texarkana! The town itself is beautiful and it is a good place to retire for older people(but im not retiring here)...as for a younger person...its definitely not a city for you and when you get old enough to leave you definitely need to do so! I grew up here, and unfortunately i had to come back for a little while to help out my family with my mom..and its like i never left! Its still the same town with a lot of narrow minded people(not everyone but a lot), its sad that its 2009 and the majority(not all) of the people's mentality here is in 60's it seems...as soon as i can get everything i need to do together. Texarkana has ruined my life & my family - 5/20/2009
We moved from Ohio to Texarkana in 1978 and all Hell has broken loose since and I can blame this city. The very poor air quality contributes to my Mom's asthma at age 45. The stuck-up snobby women contribute to me still being single at 40. There's nothing to do here too. It really sucks bad! I moved away many times, but had to come back to help with my mom's health. I can't wait to get the hell out of here again for Read More
