McKinney, Texas is a bustling city located in the northern part of the state. It has a growing population of over 180,000 residents and is known for its suburban atmosphere with a touch of small-town charm. It has attracted many families and young professionals in recent years due to its low crime rate, strong economy, and highly ranked schools. However, not all reviews are positive. John, a long-time resident, mentions that "The traffic can get pretty bad during rush hour, and the city is growing rapidly, causing some overcrowding in certain areas." Charming town - 4/23/2022
Very charming town. This city has been extremely discipline and not trying to keep up with neighboring cities to bring big name outsiders and because of it has tons of local stores and truly one of the most unique, European feeling historic downtown in the country. It also has done a great job with its city parks and has several large and unique parks similar to Plano. However McKinney parks are unique because almost all of them are connected somehow to each other. Not too many hotels or shopping plaza and in fact McKinney which has over 200,000 people does not have a mall which is unheard of in Texas! They do have several mom and pop bakeries, cafes, restaurants, and boutiques all around the city and not just the 100+ in downtown. There are two shopping plazas with big chain Read More

Far enough away from hustle and bustle, but close - 1/16/2022
We've lived in McKinney for 8 years. We left California because we knew where it was headed and thankfully ended up in McKinney. We have seen it grow tremendously. We love the people the downtown and the quiet of the outer country. Now, looking around in Plano, Allen, Frisco, Dallas, etc, we definetely see the good choice we made by choosing McKinney. We wanted to be far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to visit if we ever want to. Read More

Thinking to move to Dallas suburbs from NY - 9/25/2020
I have only spent a few days in Mckinney and surrounding area such as Plano prosper Lucas Frisco and down town Dallas. The reason I and my family visited from New York we are thinking of relocating to Mckinney or near by places. We went in the begging of August we didn’t find the weather extremely hot. It was hot but it was dry. We looked at houses and we liked them. Home prices were affordable compared to NY. However, the restaurants were not cheap. We don’t go out to eat a lot. Prices in the supermarkets were very similar to NY like Target or Walmart. The schools seems had nice rating. I am a Nurse and working in NY afraid to make a move to Texas. We have small kids in elementary school. I would appreciate any input on living and working as a nurse in Dallas area Read More

Leaving Mckinney - 4/12/2015
Left California in 2014 for the good life in mckinney tx. After living here for about s year, found out about the real cost to live in Texas. Yes, housing and gas are lower then CA. Everything else is about the same or more expensive. Healthcare is one of the worse in the country. What good is having a good economy like TX, if you can't take care of your peoples health. Car insurance is very high, groceries higher than CA for less quality. Pay is about one half less then CA. Traffic is horrible on 75,121,NDTR. The majority of people are not even from Texas. Im really disappointed about the lone star state that imports the majority of goods from CA. I will be moving back in June. There's no amount of money that can buy good weather like California. Read More

Urban for Suburban - 3/24/2015
It's realitivly alright. Mostly quiet slightly boring to me but then I moved herd 7 years ago from Dallas. Schools are good though. Houses are nice for the money. It is pretty and has plenty of wildlife. Not to far from Dallas however since everyone from every other state has moved to Dallas it can take over two hours to get back to McKinney and plenty of tolls that are steep unless you take 75 highway. Not a lot of good restaurants here or shopping but plenty of supermarkets and great healthcare facilities. So if you just want pretty, quiet, like to cook. This is your kind of place.Lots of birds and wildlife. And crepe myrtles. Lots of crepe myrtles. Do be wary of shopping downtown however you can't return anything. Local Yocal meat market though I like down there. Hated it when I first moved here. But it's grown on me and I like to cook. :) Read More

Laid back living near the big city - 10/8/2012
I find McKinney, TX to be a laid back family town, but is close to the big and lively excitement of Dallas. However, you don't have to go to Dallas to find entertainment, dinning, and family activities. McKinney provides a safe environment for your family to be active in many outdoor activities, and the school system is one of the finest in the state.

If you are looking for a safe, yet active community with good jobs and healthcare, please look at McKinney, Read More
