Not what it used to be - 9/11/2009
The small, charming country town that I moved to 26 years ago sadly doesn't exist anymore. Our city is poorly governed and that is one major reason why business interest in Red Oak is low, while neighboring communities increasing their tax bases with new retail. No major retailer wants to deal with the good 'ol boy system that is pervasive in Red Oak. Like any other city, I have met plenty of nice people who have chosen to move here, but the attitude of some recent arrivals is one of elitism. The schools are overhyped and aren't as "good" as they are sometimes made out to be. I put my child in another district after two years of a truly poor educational experience in Red Oak schools.

I tried to make Red Oak work for my family, but after a while, it was too much. We sold our home at a loss, but money doesn't matter when you come home to find your wife and Read More
