Great place once you realize what it has to offer. - 1/14/2021
As a Vidor native i grew up here and was able to see first thing the good and bad of the community. As an adult who moved away for several years and came back I can see that the good far outweigh the bad. The feeling of community is strong in Vidor, people will help strangers and rally together to help one of their own in times of need. There was a stigma that crime was rampant but with the hiring of chief Carrol and the election of Sheriff Mooney things have moved to a more positive and productive policing force and the citizens stand behind them both.
My brother and I have decided to open up a local food business and the support of the community has provided us the oppourtunity to expand and provide more services to this evergrowing community. many people will put down Vidor because they havent fully experienced the goodness that the community has, so come visit, come dine at some of the most diverse home town restaurants in the area. My 30 minute stop - 8/11/2017
Trash and debris everywhere. Uneducated people and even dangerous. I was "mean mugged" while trying to eat a salad. Quite disturbing. I got the impression of a wanna be gangster population and the government doesn't bother with it. From the looks of it probably not a good education system Read More

Contemplating moving! - 11/16/2009
Lived in Vidor for 13 years. Moved here from Orlando. Talk about culture shock! WOW. Although most of the people are nice, polite, and helpful the town has this depressed, mundane feel about it. Wish the business and homeowners would pick up trash on the ground. It really bothers me that the city would spend 6 million on a new city hall, yet nothing to improve the library or maybe put in some sidewalks or street lights or some other city beautification.
Claiborne West Park is my favorite place in town, which is pretty much on the edge of town towards Orange. Several hundred acres, trails, playgrounds, apitheatre (that goes unused), etc. Wish the rest of the town was as pretty.
There needs to be more community areas, events, and activities. Really not much to do without going to Beaumont, 10 minutes Read More

Hot, humid, and hurricane-prone - 9/21/2008
This is a small, blue-collar town where many residents are employed by the oil industry. It's sub-tropical, so it's very green here most of the time, but unfortunately, it's right on the Gulf Coast, so we have to deal with frequent hurricanes. The beautiful trees keep getting wiped out every few years, taking away the one thing this area has going for it. We're sick of the heat, the bugs, and hurricanes, so we're looking to Read More

Hot, humid, and hurricane-prone - 9/21/2008
This is a blue-collar town where a lot of the population is employed by the oil refineries. The town doesn't have much to offer except for some good, friendly people and a sub-tropical climate that makes it very green and lush. Unfortunately, it's also right on the Gulf coast, so we just weathered our second major hurricane in 3 years, so it's a little less green than before. It's too hot and humid here for my family, so we're looking to relocate somewhere where there are fewer bugs and Read More
