Low pay. No good jobs. City hall doesn’t care. - 8/26/2021
Very low paying jobs. Very few corporate companies you could have a career at. Very expensive housing. Very unaccepting of non mormons. A very lazy city hall that doesn’t care to change all of the above. They have good jobs and that’s all that matters. People here are barely getting by, not getting ahead. There is no industry and as I said the powers at the city hall don’t care to change that. There is no industry here so there is no revenue generator other than population Read More

Might be a great place in the future - 7/9/2021
We recently moved here and this are our thoughts:
- Landscape wise no doubts this is one of the most beautiful places we have been
- Public spaces are very clean, well kept, good area to raise a family
- Housing prices are high compared to what it actually is (also houses/lots are scarce)
- there are almost NO RENTALS FOR PETS. On average 60% of US citizens have a pet- the market here is ignoring that fact and offers no opportunities for renters
- Salaries are low
- Don't move here if you are a foodie (variety + quality very limited) or love to go to bars (there are maybe 3)
- Roads, size of the city isn't adjusted to all the people moving here and will have trouble in the future
- if you are used to bigger cities with a huge variety you will miss a lot Read More

St. George is a great place to retire. - 10/5/2019
I have lived in St. George for 8 months and love it so far. I agree that there are not a lot of jobs and most have low pay so this may not be a good place if your younger. Housing is generally expensive but you can find deals if you look around. I moved here from California and like how everyone is friendly and I feel very safe living here. There is not a lot to do here but since I am on a fixed income it does not matter. I have many neighbors who are Mormon and they are all lovely people. Things move slowly in St. George especially when dealing with the city officials. If your the kind of person who needs a lot of attention or likes to shake things up politically or culturally this is not the place for you. If I was younger I might feel stifled living in St. George but as a senior looking for a safe and quiet place to live this is Read More

Not fond of St. George - 9/16/2019
I've lived in St. George for 4 1/2 years. I can say it is the worst place I ever lived. This town is a large clique. My poor dog had to go to emergency yesterday, was given pain medication, and when I tried to get an emergency appointment with a vet, there was not one who would take her on a emergency basis even when she can't stand. The shopping here is terrible and wages are so low that once you decide to leave, it's almost impossible to do so. Housing foundations definitely have a problem here so if you move here and decide to buy, be very careful. That being said, there is a lack of affordable housing...or any rental housing Read More

Moving out of here ASAP!! - 6/18/2019
Ok so first off St George is a very beautiful place for Desert scenery. I'm sure most people can agree with that statement, if you have visited or lived here. With that being said there are SEVERAL pro's and con's to living here. My honest opinion is that St George is a wonderful place to visit but I cannot consciously recommend living here for several reasons. I have lived here majority of my life. I was adopted by my parents who moved our whole family to Southern UT from California when I was but a year old. Here are the facts and my two cents...

- St George has had an abundance of growth over the last 20 years. Which is great but at the same time can be very overwhelming to the people who have lived here their whole lives and people who live in these areas where all this major growth is happening. I'm claustrophobic so with growth the city grows but your land and space between each home gets smaller and smaller. Growth isn't always a good thing. When i say growth its Read More

Corruption Rules - 7/8/2018
Corruption is the rule, not the exception in St. George. From the city government to the college to the school district to the absolute lack of any separation between church and state, problems are everywhere here. It is nice it doesn't snow, however, when your children are out of school for the summer (and have the most time and need to be outside) the weather is far too hot and dangerous for them to play outside. There are a lack of any kind of jobs or industry in the area, and the limites jobs there are pay very low, even compared to the rest of Utah. Aside from hiking and plays, not much else to do. This area loves chains and there's lots of them. Vegas is a nice distance if you need an airport (St. George's is a joke). It may be a lovely place to sit in a rocker and crochet, but I would not chose to raise a family here again. If you are an avid cyclist, hiker or climber, it may be a good spot too. Otherwise, just take a vacation to see everything. Zion is neat and so is the Read More

Best of both worlds - 6/24/2018
I have lived in St George almost my whole life and that's a long time. I remember when we had dirt roads into stop lights. this place has grown and developed faster than probably anywhere in this country,. It's beautiful country and more and more big businesses are coming in and there is fantastic University. we are close to Vegas, Salt Lake, or anywhere you would like to go to see. We live in the desert and have hot summers decent Winters and we are close to all of beautiful monuments parks. We can go 20 minutes to snow, so we have the best of the Best here. If you don't like the snow this is a great place to live, but if you like the snow, you have the opportunity to drive to go skiing, sledding , or anything you'd like year Read More

Beware. - 2/14/2018
I grew up in this area. Loved it for its natural beauty and open freedom. But the local leadership is corrupt. Developers do whatever they want. On one hand we hear our leaders telling us that we, THE TAX PAYERS!, need to fund a multibillion dollar pipeline to bring much "needed" water to the area for our "growth". We say no, they go for it anyways using OUR money! And what do they do? Build new golf courses, retirement communities, fake ponds, cookie cutter neighborhoods and even a water park! They sure love all the "growth" at the expense of our community and future. But hey whatever it takes to keep their pockets lined with silver. Read More

be very aware if you are looking at a house here - 2/3/2018
We purchased a new home approx 2011 in a neighborhood that was suppose to be zoned single residence, but it turns out that if you have relatives that work for the city you can do what ever you want, I notified building inspector office and they only agreed with me that it was a unusual design for a home that would be single residence, contacted zone enforcement office and they told me I need to provide all the evidence to press charges, in the end it turns out the builder is related to city and county workers and they plan on doing what ever they want.Be very aware if you plan on purchasing a home in this city, short and long term rentals are everywhere and even some of the association are corrupt and will do short term rentals. If we would of known this beforehand, we would not have considered this Read More
