Horrible place to live - 1/27/2024
After spending almost 18 years of my life here arriving at age 36 with 2 children and leaving at 53 Richland is a horrible place to live. The medical care as a whole is awful especially orthopedics. Don't look for any kind of quality care here. Id rather die at home than go to any of the local hospitals. If you are not well, traveling to Spokane or Seattle for care is not easy. I would not put my worst enemy in any of the elder housing facilities in town. ( I watched my mother put my grandmother and 2 great uncles in these facilities- I witnessed first hand) Those two things alone make it terrible for anyone retired or going into retirement. All the new construction is in the 700k price range/ higher, or over priced apartments. Nothing that anyone actually lives there or works there can afford unless your part of the good old boys club at Hanford,  medical provider/dentist, or attorney. New new construction like single level condos with garages geared toward seniors or entry level Read More

Richland a great place to Retire - 7/5/2022
Richland has grown a lot and is getting lots of retirees, it has great weather, great food not all chain restaurants, but has them also. the people are friendly, lots of clubs to join. Lots of outdoor activities. I moved here when I retired here, and I love it. It is still close to my family on the West Side of Washington only 3.5 hours, so I can do it in on day if I want, it is not humid like other warm climates and when it is 90 plus it is comfortable in the shade and with a wind it is really nice, not hot like on the west side or other warm climates. The real estate is catching up with the West side quickly, lots of new construction, both residential and commercial, it is a great place, I love Read More

Smoky air, hot, ugly, bad food - 9/8/2021
I have lived here a few years and it’s the worst place I’ve ever been. The “ nice weather” people refer to is 100 degree hot can’t even stand outside at 9am without sweating in the summer, Oh and almost all summer long there are fires everywhere (can’t even go outside without feeling sick. You are in a basin (aka dust whole) so everything and everything gets blown in. Not many good places to eat and all ethnic food is overpriced and not very good. Not to mention there are not many trees, but atleast they got the tumbleweeds going on??. Oh and almost nothing in east pasco is in english, feels like you are in mexico. Get ready for people to discriminate against you if you aren’t mexican and or can’t speak spanish. Read More

Amazing and Wonderful - 4/23/2020
I've lived here all my life, and compared to other places I've visited, this is an amazing place. The summers are very hot and dry with lots of fires and the winter is freezing, but other than that it's amazing and a perfect place to settle down and have a family. If my parents didn't move here, I wouldn't be born! They were married before they moved, but the doctors did a surgery my mom needed that her doctors wouldn't Read More

Very expensive compared to the south - 9/28/2016
Moved here in Dec 2015. Winters are mild. Drivers are horrible. Everything is brown unless you water, water and water some more. Wind is strong. Summers are very cool compared to the south. Great bike paths. Very expensive housing both rent and own. Medical care is more expensive. The arts have no credit here. Eating out is expensive. There is a 21% plus markup on spirits. You have to drive 2 plus hours to find something to do that you would commonly find in other places for an area of this size. Overall I can't see myself staying for any length of time. With the nuclear plants/waste it reminds me of a huge kitty liter box. The people here are not Read More

Warm Summer, Cold Winter - 4/7/2014
I currently live in Richland, WA. The summers are perfect to me. It gets hot (90-100 degrees) but I like it because it reminds me of California where I am from. I dislike the winters. I am not used to cold winters and I definitely prefer a place with a more mild climate. Icy cars and roads are not fun. At least it isn't consistently below zero like some places in the world! It is bearable, but we are looking for a place that is a little warmer in the winters. There is also a windy season which can be bothersome. I love being outdoors so if you don't mind being inside for most of the winter than the weather shouldn't bother you Read More

recreation in Richland - 3/21/2014
Nestled on the banks of the Columbia with the Snake & Yakima rivers nearby, there is no I lack of recreation. Fishing, hiking, walking, biking, boating and more. Coupled with its mild winters, the avid gardner has plenty of growing Read More

Tri Cities Washington - 1/12/2014
This is the high desert and the Columbia River and bicycle trails, and hiking trails on "Badger Mountain" (a treeless landform) are the attractions. Housing is reasonable compared to other places. Life style is quiet. Summers are sunny and warm. Wind is frequent, but this area avoids the weather extremes of surrounding areas. Retiring here would be good for people who like a quiet life style. Medical care is available. Wine is a big deal in this area, as are the wineries.
There is usually no trouble getting around in winter. The 1970's style housing is Richland neighborhoods has the charm of days gone by. Parks are everywhere, including a very nice dog Read More

Tri Cities Washington - 1/12/2014
Climate and isolation is the hardest part about living here. The climate
has strong winds, winter can be very dark and depressing, and summer is hot and windy many days. Isolation in that the tri-cities are surrounded by the atomic bomb and nuclear areas, the dry barren scabland, many people compressed into apartments or unattractive housing, the need to irrigate all the time, the restaurants are sub-standard compared to other parts of the country, and round-abouts which are difficult for the elderly to navigate are everywhere. Coal trains will in a few years be going through here with regularity. There is no art museum. Unless you live here to work in the nuclear industry, there is no point in being here. The people are nice, but you sense a lot of loneliness here, and a lack of money to keep up the city facilities is an issue. The houses are 1940's, 1970's or new. Attractive housing is the exception rather than the rule. It still looks like the government town that it was in Read More
