Lovely. Quaint. Breathtaking Water Views. - 8/25/2021
I loved living in Port Townsend for about 20 years. It’s a quiet and safe town with several festivals, art, music, and more. The main economy is centered around tourism and the paper mill, so this makes starting a business here more challenging. Over the last few years, the population is skewing older with retired folks moving in due to good quality of life, the proximity to nature and the water and it being a relatively safe place to live out their golden years. If you’re looking for a low key place that is liberal, artistic, and comfortable, Port Townsend is it! Read More

Fake People Pining For The Tourist Dollar. - 4/20/2021
Transplant Californians are selling their shacks for a million, and purchasing homes here for twice what they should cost due to supply and demand. Port Townsend is a homeless infested burb, full of mindless liberals who oppose law and order, and the streets are lined with tourist "trophies" brought right off the boat from China. The place is laughable. It used to be a quaint, conservative and friendly port. Now it's tourism, fakery, unaffordable housing, and has nothing to offer. Tribes have destroyed the fishing industry, so don't count on dropping a line and catching a salmon there anytime soon. The town will take your money with a huge smile though. Overpriced w/ little opportunity - 12/31/2019
First of all... Groceries at 102%?! NO... More like 140%! Milk, butter and produce are the only things that aren't overpriced. If you have a specialty diet or any kind of allergies, expect to pay double for special items.

Talk about an expensive place to live. There is a huge wealth inequality to the point that people are literally trapped into living in PT simply because housing and food are so expensive. Most jobs pay minimum wage or slightly higher. Even people with good jobs can't find rentals because air bnb has taken most of the market and the owners of rental housing are greedy. A one bedroom, if you can find it, will be between $1000-2000 a month, with an average of $1500.

All the young people and average workers hate their town. It's sad. Crime is high because people are poor and so is drug use. If you stick in the nice areas of north Beach, uptown and downtown, you'll be ok. Things have really changed in the last few years. When I lived here in Read More

A city of history and creativity - 3/6/2016
I have lived in many places in New England and Northern California, but Port Townsend is unique. It has this blend of creativity, eccentricity and volunteerism unlike any other place I've been. Very hard to find gainful employment, but lots of opportunities to do meaningful volunteer work. And the climate is great, though cloudy. Very little snow, not as much rain as Seattle, lovely dry summers. If you are an artist, writer, craftsperson or IT creative, you will love living Read More

Port Townsend, WA Clmate - 4/12/2015
It would be hard to find a more moderate climate than in Port Townsend. The Puget Sound and Admiralty Inlet surrounds the city on three sides, creating many micro-climates, but hardly ever getting too hot or too cold. Major snow storms are 100-year events. Most of the time, we have a week or two of snow - although you can get access to heavy snow an hour away at Hurricane Ridge.

Hurricane Ridge and the Olympic Mountains form a wall that puts Port Townsend in its "rain shadow", thus keeping most severe storms at Read More

Does this gray weather make me look fat? - 12/1/2010
We live in the "rainshadow" of the Olympic Mountain Range. We don't get the rain, like Seattle, we get the cold and windy, the power outages, and a dark, gray winter for about seven months out of the year. We stay inside and watch reruns of Law and Order and eat ourselves through the next size of clothing every year. This is why so many people in Washington state are fat. Summer lasts from July through August, but its just not enough time for us to exercise off last years' poundage. If you are an alcoholic, and want to stop drinking, this is not the Read More
