Hidden gem of a city despite “high crime rates” - 4/27/2022
We actually do love Beloit. We moved here 4 years ago after living in Mequon and before that Shorewood and Ripon (safe areas with great schools). We have a teen and 2 young children and there are SO many family activities in Beloit and surrounding areas. We have a new movie theater, the abc supply stadium is beautiful and our kids love attending snappers games and going to ice arena. The baseball fields are pristine and our ymca is like no other. The trails and parks in the area are plentiful. There are diverse restaurants throughout the city and all though crime rates are considered high, they are isolated to certain areas of the city and amongst the same crowd. I have never felt unsafe here even when living near downtown and now in town of Beloit. My son loves turner school and I chose to homeschool youngest because living wages are so low here we can easily afford to do that! Can’t say that about many other cities. Excellent school system, outstanding police and fire depts, easy access to two interstate highways plus moderate cost of living make Beloit an excellent choice for a place to live or visit. Wisconsin's reputation as a high tax state is more than balanced out by the services

Living in Beloit - 7/31/2009
We have lived in rural Beloit for 12 years, and lived in Milwaukee before that. My perception of Beloit is that people are very friendly. There is plenty of community activity. I believe the city is improving every year we live here. The riverfront development (Rock River) is beautiful with fishing and bike paths. I have worked in every part of the city and have never felt physically threatened. I feel much safer here than I did in Milwaukee. Real estate values are excellent. No complaints at

Wonderful Place, is Beloit - 7/29/2007
Unlike the other two reviews, I find Beloit to be a truly special place. Alot of good things are happening here, and with Beloit's cultural diversity and beautiful public spaces I am happy to call this place my home. We host a superb college, (Wisconsin's oldest college, "the Harvard of the midwest", Beloit College), and have a microsm unlike any other place in the nation.
