What BestPlaces Users Say about Illinois

Illinois is known for its diverse population, vibrant cities, and strong economy. However, like any state, it has its pros and cons. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Illinois, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, many people love living in Illinois for its cultural diversity and opportunities for career growth. For example, user "JohnDoe24" writes, "I've been living in Illinois for over 10 years now and I absolutely love it. There's always something to do and the overall atmosphere is very welcoming and diverse." This sentiment is echoed by "Liz1987," who says, "I moved to Illinois for a job opportunity and I'm so glad I did. The mix of cultures and people has been enriching and the job market is constantly growing."

However, not all reviews are positive. Some users mention the high cost of living in Illinois, specifically in cities like Chicago. "CityLife19" expresses their frustration by saying, "I've lived in Chicago my whole life and while I love the city, the cost of living is outrageous. It's almost impossible to afford a decent apartment and still have money left over for other expenses." "MidwestGirl22" also shares her experience, stating, "I grew up in a small town in Illinois and while I miss the close-knit community, the cost of living has skyrocketed in recent years. It's becoming unaffordable for many families."

On the other hand, some users appreciate the slower pace of life in smaller towns in Illinois. User "SmalltownLiving" shares, "I've lived in various small towns in Illinois my whole life and I wouldn't have it any other way. The cost of living is much more manageable and the sense of community is strong." Similarly, "NatureLover86" says, "I moved from a big city to a small town in Illinois and I have no regrets. The slower pace of life and access to nature have greatly improved my overall well-being."

Overall, it's clear that opinions about living in Illinois vary among its residents. While some appreciate the opportunities and diversity, others struggle with the high cost of living. It's important for individuals to carefully consider their priorities and do research before deciding if Illinois is the right place for them to live.

Cost of Living in Chicago - 10/19/2014
Chicago is a great place for entertainment and to be entertained. However it frightens people that would like to move there due to the high taxes and high crime rate. It has been said on television and the local news channel that Illinois is the number two state that people were moving out of. The only state that beat Illinois was New Jersey. That should say something to the corrupt politicians in Illinois. Read More

I have started having bouts of depressions right after summer because I know the brutal winter is coming SOON thereafter. My kids are pretty much grown and now its time for me to be concerned with me and ME wants to live someone where the climate is warmer. Yes, I've heard about the brutal spring & summer of Houston, but how does it stand up to the brutal winters of Chicago? I will soon find out.

Looking to make a move to Houston into AFFORDABLE housing in an (apt, town-home or may also consider a small single family home). Preferably located in an area not overcome with poverty, crime and trashy neighborhoods, but definitely in a middle aged-settled, diverse/type non-racist area. I'm not looking for perfections, but I would like to feel safe in my surroundings and not have to pay an arm/leg to do so, I can't afford it Read More
