Wind - 4/9/2008
The wind seems to always blow in Western Iowa. Helps in the 2-3 months that it really gets hot, but, in the winter will chill you to the bone. Wind breaks are a must but new construction usually doesn't come with many trees. Be prepared to lay out some cash for semi-mature trees or you'll have chilly Read More

Iowa - 2/22/2008
Winter lasts from late Nov. to mid-March. The last half of March and all of April really aren't Spring. It's chilly and wet. Spring is May, and it's great! So is June. July and through mid August are hot and humid, but not all that bad. Fall is the Iowa's best season. September and October are wonderful. Sunshine, mild temps, blue skies, great fall color in mid-October. Early to mid-November isn't bad. It starts clouding up, and it's chillier, but it's not cold. Late November is to Fall what April is to Spring: chilly and wet. I've said for years that Iowans have short memories. By late November you remember what Winter's going to be like, but by then it's too late to Read More

Iowa's Loess Hills - 1/29/2008
The Loess Hills (www.byways.org) in Iowa are by far one of the most unique and beautiful places to visit in North America if not the world. The soils are rare, as well as the people you will meet. What makes Iowa special is that, it and only one other place that can make this claim is in China. There are loess soils in other areas but China and Iowa are the deepest, with respectively over 200 ft. for each location. Each town has it's own story to tell as far back as 6000 yrs. Yes, 6000 years. They have found spear points, stone tools, and burials to indicate that humans have inhabited the hills. You can stop into any tourism attraction and you will be greeted with a smile and leave with a wealth of information. You will darn near feel like family and vow to return some day. Another website to help you learn more is (www.traveliowa.org) which will link you to other interesting areas in Iowa to visit. No time like the present. Click away and make time to stop by.
