What BestPlaces Users Say about New York

New York is a diverse and bustling state known for its busy cities, lively cultural scene, and rich history. With a population of over 19 million people, it is the fourth most populous state in the US. Many people are drawn to New York for its job opportunities, world-renowned universities, and vibrant atmosphere. However, like any place, it also has its drawbacks, such as high cost of living and crowded living spaces.

User reviews on BestPlaces.net provide a unique insight into the experiences of those who have lived in New York. One reviewer, Anna, highlights the variety of opportunities in the state, stating "New York is truly the land of opportunities. From finance to fashion, there's something for everyone." Another reviewer, John, praises the state's cultural scene, saying "I love living in New York because there's always something to do. Museums, concerts, festivals, you name it." However, not all reviews are positive. Sarah shares her frustrations with the high cost of living, stating "I moved to New York for a job, but the cost of living is so high that it's hard to save up or afford anything other than a small apartment." Another reviewer, Michael, echoes this sentiment, saying "The traffic and crowds in New York can be overwhelming, and the cost of living is outrageous. It's not an easy place to live." Overall, while there are many positives to living in New York, these reviews show that it may not be the right fit for everyone and that the high cost of living is a common concern among residents.

Love ny but too expensive to but my dream home - 9/10/2009
NY is a great city. However it is very expensive to live here. If one is the party type NY is for you. As for myself I am not, I love a more peaceful, calm relaxing lifestyle. Some New Yorkers can also be very prejudice but I believe that is common everywhere. Overall, NY is a beautiful.

PS: I am thinking about moving to Atlanta Ga in the near future. I am not a party person but my husband is. What are the party seen like? Also, is the school system great out there? I don't think I will have a problem with employment. I am an Ultrasound tech and my husband is RN.

Looking to leave Long Island - 8/24/2009
Long Island is a very beautiful place to live, however the cost of living is just outragous. I've spoken to old college friends who are scattered throughout the country, we all have a similar level of income, however their lifestyle is much better because of the cost of living. Looking to start a family here? Think again, even during this housing bust, a starter home in a good neighborhood is still $300,000 for a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom. Not to mention we have the highest rates of leukemia and breast cancer in the Read More

NY Suburbs (Westchester) - 6/22/2009
What I love about where we currently live are many things. First of all, being location. Approx 30 miles north of NYC makes commuting to the city simple, whether it's for work or for cultural and shopping venues, without the noise, congestion and city-living that I would like to avoid. Also we are close to major international airports as well as a smaller regional one. Our community is diverse in demographics, and offers everything from top notch hospitals to many activities (sports, cultural, etc) for all ages. All this, while maintaining the quiet, serenity of the suburbs.
The only negative thing, in my eyes, is that it is very expensive to live here and property taxes are relatively high compared to many areas of the country. Unfortunately it will be the taxes that will force us to move when we Read More
