I was born and raised in this state but Tennessee is going downhill fast.
First, you should be aware middle Tennessee is #1 in the nation for nighttime tornados. Storms happen frequently in the summer and it’s generally humid, especially in the middle of the state where all the water pools. The issue is largely in West and Middle Tennessee, rare to see one in East.
Second, you should be aware according to PopulationU.com:
“By 2023, Tennessee state accounts for the fourth highest violent crime rate in US.”
Memphis Tennessee was ranked the 5th most dangerous city in the US according to MoneyGeek.

Some friends moved to Nashville and surrounding areas and love it.We enjoy visiting the area, but were trying to narrow down areas to relocate to in TN.We will be retired by then, but still need to work, even part time.Our 'checklist' would included:*good job market; education, hospitality, real estate, local CDL driver*outdoor activities; biking, hiking, walking, visiting historic landmarks*'climate' - conservative (2nd Amendment, we are in America)*low crime rateWe have travelled from Memphis to Knoxville a few years back. Looking for the opinions of lifetime Tennesseeans - 4/25/2021
Let me start with a little bit about me. First off, I am a believer in the Lord Jesus.Second, I'm from the communist state of NJ. I live near Manhattan and I can't stand it here. I've never fit in except with my brothers and sisters in the Lord. It was always a given that we would retire somewhere down south. But because of current events, relocating may be untimely pushed up. My wife and I have visited Tennessee several times and really love it. We don't want to be near Knoxville. Don't take it the wrong way, but we can't stand big cities. Also, we don't want to be by most northerners, not northerners that think like the north anyway. Longtime Resident and Knoxville Enthusiast - 9/4/2020
I am a lifelong resident of the Scruffy City. I have visited many cities and states and briefly lived elsewhere but I am a big fan of the city. Knoxville is a very affordable place to live with a lot to offer. I also find the mid-sized city to be a comfortable size. Downtown has improved a lot in the past few years and is constantly growing. Being a college town brings Knoxville an infusion of energy but the city is much more than the university. Being situated on the river with mountains all around, there is a ton of outdoor recreation in the city and in the surrounding area. Knoxville has a mild climate with all four seasons. Spring brings bright greens and beautiful flowers. The Dogwood Arts Festival is a city classic. Fall brings some of the best mild weather and beautiful autumn leaves. Definitely a nice place to live where I plan to be for many more years.

Rolling hills, beautiful countryside, mountains, lakes, streams, parks and greenways, history, music, and a culture all it's own. Tennesseans simply laugh when referred to as "redneck hillbillies." Why? Because we're smart enough to know that a redneck hillbilly is a state of mind that can be found anywhere. Sure, we have our issues - pollution and narrow minded ignorance - but this can be found everywhere. Tennessee is what you make it.

There are many who say Knoxville is not a good place to live, especially people from the north. Well, it is a great place to live, especially the suburbs. The people of Knoxville are very nice, the nature, the beauty, and the overall atmosphere is great. Housing prices are amazingly low as are taxes.
To my northern friends who have sour grapes, you have to understand that when you "talk down" to southern people, they don't take it very well. So, look at yourselves and your own attitude that seeps out towards them. If you treat them with respect, they will do the same for you. But, for the most part, northern people do bring with them prejudices they learned in the north about southern people that are not true. So you are probably projecting it.
There is a saying in the south, "I won't put up with your uppety Yankee BS." And it's true. They won't.
