Best place for retirees - 7/11/2012
St. Croix, US Virgin Islands is so far the best place for retirees. The people are warm and still practice old good family values and very respectful. Climate is hot April to July, afterwhich we experience rain falls that last for only 20 minutes. Green mountains and clear blue seas. The air is clean. Utah has been growing through the recession, especially in the tech industry. Adobe is building a large new facility right in my back yard. Twitter is building a data center here. And as scary as it sounds, the NSA is building a huge telecommunications "listening post." that will employ 15,000 people.

I may be biased, because I was born and lived most of my life here (except for a few years in Texas and Alaska), but Utah is a great place to live. Very family friendly and fairly affordable. If you like the outdoors, it is a wonderful place to be. Hiking and skiing in the mountains and Boating on several lakes. Hunting is a very big thing here also.

I love living in Salt Lake City Utah - 1/16/2012
I love living in Salt Lake City, Ut. I have the best of everything around me. I live within a 30 minute drive of the airport on a bad traffic day. If i choose to live in the mountains it is still a 30 minute drive. I have the mountains 30 minutes away to go hiking and skiing. In the summer I have 4 lakes within 1 hour of my home. It is safe and just a great place to live.

Great place for recreation, strange culture. - 11/8/2011
Salt Lake City and Utah in general offers many recreational opportunities. The most famous is the snow skiing in the winter with many resorts to choose from and we are told "the greatest snow on earth". The geography is impressive from alpine forests in breathtaking mountains to awe inspiring desert scenery with arches and dramatic formations.
The culture and politics are primarily LDS and conservative. The Mormon church is pervasive and ubiquitous. There are very few elected officials that are not LDS. Salt Lake City tends to be more progressive than the rest of the state, but the state legislature has passed some weird liquor laws and the state controls the distribution and sale of liquor and wine. You can buy 3.2% beer in the grocery store but that's it. They recently passed laws saying mixed drinks in a restaurant must be prepared out of sight of the customers. I'm armed and ready for all you Utah-loving scrapbooking mormons to fire back at me. I have over 20 years experience living in the hellhole that is Utah, so I am not writing this from a "grain of salt" experience. No, not at all. I am actually speaking on behalf of a LOT of friends and family here.

After spending 8 wonderful years on the east coast,
I left behind a lot of good friends and clean air to move back here to help my mom out. Horrible! - 7/17/2010
Utah as a whole when it comes to the people who were born and raised thier are terrible. My husband and I lived there 4 years and every moment of it was aweful. When we went to a restaurant and ordered a drink ( such as a martini ) all eyes were on us giving us looks like we just slapped Brigham Young in the face. The schools are horribly over-run, like every kid there has atleast 4 or 5 brothers and sisters. If you ARE`NT of thier religious faith you get completely shunned and you feel like an outcast. Unless your an excersize gooru or have 6+ children there is absolutely nothing fun to do. I would never suggest anyone live there and if you still want to visit, good luck. You`ll need

the snow and the cold weather... - 5/30/2010
I am so tired of living in a freezing , snowing place 9 months out of the year. we are now almost in june and we had a snowstorm last week. I am tired of it. I want to be able to take my daughter and my puppy out for walks and to parks, i wanna be able to take a jog in the morning or go for a bike ride but i cannot do that here in Utah. I have this feeling that i dont belong here and although i have no clue where i belong , i know it's not here and that there is somewhere for me to be happy out there.
