I loved living in Asheville! I am from NC, but I have lived in TX, VA, CO, CA, and TN, (military spouse). Asheville was the best place I ever lived, with so much to do, culturally, and lots of free stuff for kids to do on the weekends. The schools are really good; I work in education. It shouldn't be too difficult for you to get flights out of Asheville, but if you have difficulty, there is Spartanburg-Greenville, SC about an hour away. However, just like everywhere else, the jobs are down in Asheville if your spouse works. The cost of living is higher than most Southern cities, but I think you get what you pay for as far as quality of schools and living in Asheville.
