Looking for a job in Charlotte

I moved to Charlotte, NC in June 2008 from Casper, WY. My domestic partner basically brought me down here. For the most part I feel this was a fairly decent move except for one problem--I CANNOT FIND A DECENT FULL TIME JOB HERE!!!! For the time I've been here the only luck I've came to when it comes to employment is a part time job in fast food, which I worked there for 8 months. I've been unemployed since August. I'm looking for work outside cashiering/fast food, and no sales. These jobs just don't last me no matter how hard I've tried. I'm currently attending a university (which I don't know how much longer I'll be attending because I've been having a lot problems), and I have a GED. Most of my experience is customer service/cashiering/fast food, and a little clerical (total of 14 months). I want to look for something else--a full time job that will last me a few years and not a few months. The longest I've ever found a job is 8 months. I also tried sales/marketing jobs, but those don't do me any service, either. How do you find a job outside these industries? Is there any employment for a person like me? Any hope? How do you find a job in Charlotte?!
