I agree with some. It takes a while to make and meet friends, but isn't that with any city? I am not that young anymore. I am female, 51, single and not thin with stylish clothes. I do not work in the Corporate world, and am not looking for a guy, just friends. I moved back recently after living near Asheville,NC for almost 3 years. If you work in retail, in the winter time if you don't have a job, you are SOL. The work is so seasonal even though the mountain views are beautiful. I had no trouble making friends while there, and with the exception of getting together sometimes with one female friend for breakfast here and there, I didn't hang out with the other "friends". Actually one guy up there describe his friends as "good time friends". It depends who you are and what type of people you want to associate with. Me, I don't care what you do for a living, if you want to be a friend, that's great. Trying to look for single groups to meet people for social events so it's not just working and going home for me.
