Review of Charlotte, North Carolina

No jobs here...
Star Rating - 2/25/2009
Bad employer attitudes, bad treatment of people who apply, false job leads, firing at will, discrimination that you could never believe possible in this era (age and sex, not race)..background checks to wash floors, credit checks to waitress, Charlotte has no bank jobs left, no industry, very poor urban planning, small businesses going out left and right due to expensive commercial leases..but the home builders keep building...high ceiling homes where you still need heat in the "winter"..so your heat bills will be as high as living in NY or Chicago...unless your a teacher and want to work in a crummy school district or in the medical field..do yourself a favor, dont move here..I am ready to take burn my house down (kidding)..worst mistake I ever made. Stay up north...where there is more sanity...high taxes yes, but more work and more consumer rights..here, you are nothing!

***THERE ARE NO JOBS HERE! Charlotte's top industries: Banking (too bad banks are not hiring), Manufacturing (I hope you got a license to run a forklift), and the Restaurant Industry (servers only get paid $2.13 an hour...not even minimum wage!!!). Read the other reviews here, they will sum everything up for you just like I will....Since my boyfriend and I moved here 6 months ago from upstate NY, we thought the people in NY were bad....until we moved here. We are in our late 20's, and it is very very hard to make friends down here and to find a job down here. The locals or "Charlotteans" that have lived here all of their lives can't stand people from the North-actually they cant stand people moving here at all. First off, my boyfriend has a bachelors degree in business marketing from a reputable college in NY, and was only able to find a management job here at a small business in manufacturing. His dream someday was to become a successful sales rep-only to find out that all sales jobs in Charlotte are straight commission, and they want someone age 40+. You wouldn't believe all of the competition of getting an entry level sales position here. But anyways, I also attended school and I have 10 years of customer service/administrative experience-I have had no luck finding a job that makes more than $12 an hour. The benefits are horribly expensive, and to find a job within 5 miles from where you live such as my boyfriend-it takes him 30 min to drive 5 miles to get home from work. I had a job 13 miles away from home and it took me an hour to get to work and to come home. I believe I'm 'signed up' with 7 employment agencies (google them, they're all there), and none of them can find me anything. The people are rude here, the drivers do 20 mph over the speed limit, the fast food restuarants will screw up every order you place because no one gives a %$@#, you have to pay taxes just to drive your car (mine just came in the mail for $196), your heating bill is as much as living in Chigaco for the winter, and make sure you research real well the area you want to live in. I researched my area before I moved in, and I thought it was great (Steele Creek/Arysley area), and turns out there are tons of crime and lower class, plus it takes 50 min with traffic just to drive 10 miles. Our apartment lease is up in 6 months and were gonna do whatever it takes to make money and survive in that six months, including saving up money to GET THE *&@^ outta this hellhole!!! And btw, it takes 3 1/2 hours to get to the beach, and 2 1/2 hours to get to the mountains....meaning its NOT a day trip, because that would be 7 hours of driving just to go to the beach...screw that!!! Take my advice before you move here: stay here a couple of weeks if you can afford it, get a job transfer, save at least $5,000, and get a gun permit!
